Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit quick elevating action and stacking of a sheaf of sheets in large quantities and to suppress power consumption by providing a means for holding a sheet stacking means movably in a vertical direction, a means for suppressing power consumption and a means for controlling continuation in holding the stacking means. SOLUTION: A stacking motor is provided for holding a sheet stacking tray movably in a vertical direction, and a CPU circuit part 150 is provided for controlling the whole image forming device and energy-saving processing for minimizing power consumption to control continuation in holding the stacking tray by the stacking motor during the execution of energy-saving processing and to control adjustment of torque of the stacking motor on the basis of the detected result of a paper detecting sensor. A finisher control part 501 is further provided for adjusting a control current according to the phase exciting pattern of the stacking motor. This constitution permits quick elevating action and suppresses power consumption of the device.

In the control part of this copy device, processing is performed for aligning the direction of images on the sheet loaded in the tray of the inserter 900 and the direction of images inputted from an image reader part 200, the processed images are formed on the sheet and the sheet from the inserter 900 and the sheet, on which images are formed by the printer part 300, are loaded in a processing tray inside a finisher 500.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device capable of enhancing the productivity when a post-processing is to be conducted while transcribing material and special sheets of paper are put together without impairing the grade of printing on the special sheet and the durability in transporting the transcribing material. SOLUTION: A special sheet of paper from an inserter 900 is inserted to ordinary sheets of paper on which image are formed, and these sheets with special one(s) inserted are folded into two and bound into a book in such an arrangement that it is possible to spread and turn over page by page. When this book-making process is to be executed, composition of image to be formed on the sheets and rearrangement are performed so that the sheets to be bound lie in the correct sequence of pages. The special sheet(s) inserted are put in standby temporarily in a non-sort path 521 using a finisher 500 and then the ordinary sheets are introduced into an accommodation guide 820 and accommodated, and thereafter, the special sheet(s) in standby are introduced into the accommodation guide 820 and accommodated.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image forming device from stopping temporarily during image forming operation by estimating the sheet number of documents placed on a document placement means from the traveling amount of a document conveyance means obtained by a traveling amount measuring means. SOLUTION: A traveling amount measuring means 352 of a document conveyance means measures the traveling amount from the home position of a sheet feeding roller. An estimating member 353 estimates the rough sheet number of documents placed on a document tray from the volume thickness of the documents on the tray. The number of the sheets capable of being delivered to a sorter which sorts and loads the sheets automatically or a sheet processor which binds and stacks a plurality of sheets is searched by a searching means 362 which is at a limit value of the sheet processor, and is compared with that of the sheets to be copied. If the total number of the sheets exceeds the number of the sheets which the sorter is capable of storing, a warning message is indicated on the display part 361 of a copying machine body when copying operation is designated for the number of sheets capable of being stored in the sorter or the sheet processor which binds and loads a plurality of sheets.

A reader part in this image reading device, for example, a copying machine reads an image recorded in an original placed on a platen at the reading position of the copying machine main body. The original reading positions on the platen are three parts, R1-R3, and the R2 is the reading position in a both side original mode, the R2 is the reading position of a half-size original in one side original mode, and the R3 is the reading position when large size and half-size originals in one side original mode are vertically carried.

Starting the conveying operation of the conveyance means 150 is controlled by a conveying operation control means during aligning operation by the aligning means 140 or binding operation by the binding means.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an error in detecting a document size in a manual insertion carrier path by detecting the carrier distance of a sheet reaching a reference position, by comparing the detection distance with a practical distance, and judging whether there is some abnormality on the way to carrying or not. SOLUTION: When a manual insertion paper feeding is implemented, a document is carried inside a sheet path A by rotating a manual insertion paper feed roller 13 by a paper discharge motor 104, and then a manual insertion register sensor 34 judges whether the tip of the document passes the detection position of the sensor 34 or not. When the passing is detected, a manual insertion loop counter is started, and when the passing of the rear end of the document is detected, the counter is made to stop and the size is checked. That is to say, the carrier distance is detected based on the count value of the counter, the abnormality/normality of the document sliding on the way to carrying is judged by comparing the carrier distance with the practical distance, and when being judged abnormal, the length detected by a size detection means is set to invalid.

In the case when the number of the sheets on the copy tray 4 is one, the separation fan 31 is stopped for electric power saving and reduction of noise of a device.

Furthermore, even when one of the separating means is abnormal, the sheet transportation is made possible by another separating means, without stopping a system.
