Abstract: A table having a plurality of holding portions for holding recording heads to be tested is arranged to be pivotal between a printing position and a changing position, so that the recording head located at the changing position can be changed during estimation of the recording head located at the printing position. An estimation pattern in which dots are arranged so as not to contact each other is printed on a recording medium by the recording head held by the holding portion located at the printing position. The printed estimation pattern is read by an image pick-up device, and character amounts in units of dots are extracted from image data obtained by the image pick-up device. Pattern estimated values are calculated according to the dot character amounts, and whether or not the recording head is normal is judged on the basis of the calculated pattern estimated values. Another estimation pattern is printed on the recording medium. The printed pattern is read by the image pick-up device, and an edge image is extracted from density image data obtained by the image pick-up device. After enlargement/reduction processing is performed for the edge image, an edge image is extracted again. Shape character values in units of areas separated by edge lines of the edge image are obtained, and the pattern and a stain if any are discriminated based on the shape character values, thereby detecting a stain state. A one-dimensional average density in the line direction of the pattern is obtained from the density image data, and a line width is obtained based on the average density. A stain is detected on the basis of the line width. Thus, whether or not a recording head is normal is estimated.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the existence of defect on a repeating pattern of plural unit patterns regardless of the variation of each unit pattern. SOLUTION: The matching degree R1 between the 1st piece P1 of n unit pattern images and a reference image is calculated and is stored as the maximum matching degree MAX and also, P1 is preserved as a candidate for a new reference image. Next, the matching degrees R2 to Rn between the second to the n-th unit pattern images P2 to Pn and the reference image are successively calculated, they are respectively compared with the current MAX and MAX value and a new reference image candidate are updated if they are larger that it. When the degree MAX that is finally acquired exceeds reference value Lr, it is used as a new reference image and the matching degrees between it and P1 to Pn are respectively calculated. The existence of defects is decided in each unit pattern by comparing each calculated matching degree R1 to Rn with decision standard value Li respectively.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To shorten time required for inspection by providing a work set mechanism, a recovery mechanism, a paper transport mechanism and a mesuring mechanism for reading out a test pattern from a paper sheet. CONSTITUTION:A rotary table 505 is rotated and the replacement of a work W to a work fixing part 502-1 is performed by a workman, and thereafter on the termination of the work replacement, a recovery process is performed to the work W by a recovery mechanism 600. After the recovery process the rotary table 505 is again rotated so that the work W may be set at a printing position facing a roll paper. Next, as the printing of a specified test pattern is performed, the roll paper, on which the test pattern is printed, is moved to a measurement position via a paper transport mechanism 700, and is measured by means of image pickup devices 801, 802, and a specified process for a test is performed by means of an image process device. Then a measurement result is displayed on a CRT. In this way, the replacement of a recording head for inspection and the measurement of the printed pattern for evaluation are performed abreast so that it is possible to shorten time required for an assessment.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a trouble that a high quality image can not be obtained due to fluctuation in the density of image caused by fluctuation in the quantity of liquid to be ejected when a foreign matter adheres to the inner wall of liquid channel in a liquid jet head. SOLUTION: The liquid jet head comprises an electrothermal converter 11 generating thermal energy for causing film boiling in a liquid, and an energy generating section for ejecting a liquid drop from an ejection port opening at one end of a liquid path. The electrothermal converter 11 has a plurality of regions of different heating value and since a vapor bubble in a region Z2 of relatively high heating value serves constantly as a nucleus of bubble, a constant volume of liquid is pushed out from the liquid path even it a foreign matter adheres to the inner wall thereof. Consequently, liquid ejection is stabilized and a high quality image having no fluctuation of density can be obtained.

Further, a specific pattern is extracted on the basis of the image generated by binarizing the multilevel image data while changing the threshold level, the part on the multilevel image data corresponding to the specific pattern is emphasized (S5), and the re-setting of the binarization threshold level based upon the emphasized multilevel image data and the detection of the center of gravity and the angle are performed.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To stably detect the position of a body by extracting the part corresponding to a thin line from a binarized original image and varying the density value of the part of multi-valued data corresponding to the thin line. CONSTITUTION: An image including an object is inputted as a multi-valued image corresponding to the lightness of respective parts. The initial value of a threshold value for binarization is determined by using the multi-valued image. A binarization process is performed which sets a logical value '1' for parts of the inputted multi-valued image which are brighter than the threshold value and a logical value '0' for parts which are darker than the threshold value. As for the binary image, evaluation reference values for evaluation are found by connection areas. When an evaluation reference value is not within a specific range, it i5 judged that the process is insufficient and a thin-line detecting process is performed to extract only parts of shades. A density value converting process is performed to correct the density values of the extracted parts of the shades to the darkest value (e.g. 0) among the density values of the inputted multi-valued image. Further, a threshold value conversion process is performed for the binarization.
