At least a part of the original supporting member 6 locating on the side opposite to the arrangement side of the light source 3 with respect to the read line 9 has a reflecting surface for reflecting a part of the light from the light source 3 and leading to the read line 9.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the mount accuracy of each member such as a sensor array member and an image forming element by pressing a light guide light source onto a base so as to support the light guide with the base. SOLUTION: A projection 8 is provided to a side of a sensor array base of a light guide member 4. The projection 8 is pressed into contact with the sensor array base 2 to support the light guide member 4. Furthermore, a light emission part 4a of the light guide member 4 is configured to be a lens that collects lights and part of the part 4a is pressed into contact with the sensor array base 2 to support the light guide member 4. The light guide member 4 is fixed by being clamped with a frame 6 and the sensor array base 2. Since a light source 7 is mounted on the base having the photoelectric conversion element in this way not via any frame, the layout of the light source 7 and the photoelectric conversion element is independent of any frame so as to enhance the accuracy of the layout of the light source 7 and the photoelectric conversion element. Thus, the image reader is made small in size.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly illuminate an irrastrated face with light by forming an area for the reflection/diffusion of a conductor like saw teeth so that teeth are arranged in the longitudinal direction of the rod-like conductor and forming these teeth so that the width of teeth is narrowed in the vicinity of a light source and extended in accordance with separation from the light source. SOLUTION: An area 5 for reflecting/scattering a beam propagated through the inside of the conductor 3 and extracting the beam to the outside of the conductor 3 is constituted so as to form a fine saw tooth-like tooth string on one side face along the longitudinal direction of the conductor 3. The width of the area 5 is set so as to be narrowed in the vicinity of an incident face and extended on a center part separated from any incident face. Since the incident rate of a beam propagated through the inside of the conductor 3 upon the area 5 is reduced on near side of the incident face and increased on the far side, the non-uniformity of illuminance in the longitudinal direction of the conductor 3 is effectively improved.
