It is an object to provide an optical transparent member and a method of producing an optical member capable of maintaining a high-performance antireflection effect for a base over a long period of time, and an optical system using the same, specifically an optical transparent member including on a base 21 a layer 22 containing SiO 2 as a main component, a layer 23 containing Al 2 O 3 as a main component, and a plate crystal layer 24 formed from plate crystals containing Al 2 O 3 as a main component, wherein the surface of the plate crystal layer 24 has a shape of irregularities 25, and an optical system using the same.

To provide conductive carbon which carries at least platinum as a catalyst and has an organic functional group capable of causing hydrogen ion dissociation. The use of such conductive carbon as an electrode catalyst layer of a fuel cell enables the effective conduction of hydrogen ions and electrons generated on the catalyst, thereby providing a fuel cell highly efficient in electricity generation.

Disclosed is an optical member wherein high antireflective effect can be maintained on an arbitrary base for a long time. Specifically disclosed is an optical member wherein a multilayer body is formed on the surface of a base. In this optical member, at least one layer is a metal oxide layer (27) having a pore, and at least one layer mainly composed of an organic resin (26) is arranged between a base (25) and the metal oxide layer (27). The metal oxide layer is a plate-like crystal layer which is composed of a plate-like crystal mainly containing aluminum oxide, and the surface of the plate-like crystal layer has projections and recesses. At least a part of the organic resin has an aromatic ring and/or an imide ring.

Provides is an optical member capable of keeping a high performance antireflection effect over a long period of time with respect to an arbitrary substrate. The optical member has plural layers on a substrate, and includes at least one metal oxide layer having a void, and at least one layer containing an organic resin as a main component formed between the substrate and the metal oxide layer. The metal oxide layer is a plate crystal layer formed of a plate crystal containing aluminum oxide as a main component and a surface of the plate crystal layer has an uneven profile. The organic resin has an aromatic ring and/or a hetero ring in at least a part thereof.

The method and apparatus performs pattern recognition on given information such as speech data or image data with a reduced amount of calculations of the degree of matching associated with reference patterns. The method and apparatus provides a high speed operation without an increase in the amount of calculations of the degree of matching even when there are a great number of reference patterns. In this invention, the process of calculating the degree of matching includes: a scalar quantization step in which the value of each dimension of an input feature vector is scalar-quantized; a table look-up step in which a table is subjected to a look-up operation on the basis of the quantized value obtained in the scalar quantization step so as to obtain an output value of a reference pattern function for each dimension; and a cumulative matching degree calculation step in which the output value of the reference pattern function obtained in the table loop-up step is accumulated for all dimensions, and the resultant cumulative value is finally employed as the degree of matching between the reference pattern and the input feature vector.

With this invention, an information processing apparatus which has an audio data playback function and text-to-speech synthesis function allows the user to input an instruction by a fewer operations and provides a fast-forward/fast-reverse function optimal to speech synthesis. During speech synthesis, an instruction input by a button operation is supplied to a speech synthesis unit. When playback of audio data is underway, but speech synthesis is inactive, an instruction input by a button operation is supplied to an audio data playback unit. In a fast-forward mode, an abstract is read aloud or head parts of sentences are read aloud. In a fast-reverse mode, head parts of sentences are read aloud. Also, given tones are generated in correspondence with skipped parts.
