Abstract:
1303483 Oxybenzoyl polyester-fluorinated polymer composition CARBORUNDUM CO 18 May 1970 [28 May 1969] 23912/70 Headings C3P and C3R A composition useful, e.g., for making bearings which can operate at high temperatures without lubrication comprises a mixture in a ratio of 1 : 100 to 100 : 1 of an oxybenzoyl polyester and a polyfluorinated addition polymer stable to at least 400‹ F. such as polytetrafluoroethylene having M.W. above 6000. Preferred polyesters have formula where p is 30 to 200, e.g. those described and claimed in Specification 1,173,121, and copolyesters containing oxybenzoyl units are also suitable, particularly those which form the subject of Specification 1,303,484. The composition may be formed by mixing and compacting granular polyester and granular addition polymer. Fillers such as bronze, graphite, molybdenum disulphide or glass fibres may also be included in amounts up to 70% of the total weight. Bearings made from P.T.F.E.-based compositions are described.
