The mean magnitude of periodic pulses 12, Fig. 3, subject to noise and jitter and superimposed on a quiescent level 13 which is relatively free from noise is measured by passing the pulse train through a D. C. blocking circuit 15, Fig. 1, and sampling the output during the intervals #T 2 between pulses. The sampler output may be filtered to remove ripple, amplified and applied to an indicator, recorder or process-control system. The pulses need not be rectangular. The blocking circuit may comprise an RC network or a transformer and the sampler may utilize an FET. The sampler is synchronized with the signal source in such a way that the sampling interval is of slightly shorter duration than the interval 13. In a time division multiplex system, Fig.4 (not shown), where a pulse train comprises pulses belonging to several different channels, a sorter may be provided to reconstitute separate pulse trains for each channel.
