    Abstract: An image display circuit (11-13, 21-24, 92, 93) supplies gray scale data according to a video signal (RD) to a liquid crystal panel (20) to present gray-scaled display and scans the liquid crystal panel (20) N times during one field period of a video signal. The image display circuit includes a table ROM (77, 78) comparing current video signal with a previous video signal of one frame before, and generates gray scale data for N times in accordance with the comparison result. Gray scale data greater than the gray scale of the current video signal is generated when the comparison result indicates that the gray scale of the current video signal is greater than that of the previous video signal, and gray scale data smaller than the gray scale of the current video signal is generated when the gray scale of the current video signal is found smaller than that of the previous video signal. Based on the generated gray scale data, the liquid crystal panel (20) is driven with the proper gray scales.

    Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device, to improve the contrast, the frame frequency is raised by scanning the scanning electrodes (X) of the liquid crystal display panel (17) a plurality of times during one field interval of the video signal. The scanning electrodes (X) are divided into two groups, which are scanned alternately. An image memory (M) is provided to store video signals. In scanning the liquid crystal display panel (17), the video signal from the video signal supplying source (11) and the video signal read from the image memory (M) are alternately supplied to the liquid crystal display panel. The image memory (M) stores only part of the video signal such as the video signal for every other horizontal interval or the signal consisting of the most significant bit only, not the entire video signal.

    Abstract: In the signal electrode drive apparatus for use in a liquid crystal display, the signal electrode drive circuit (3a) for driving a liquid crystal display panel (LCD) is comprised of a latch circuit (2l) for latching a digitized video signal, a buffer (22), a graduation signal-forming circuit (23), an intensity modulation pulse-generating circuit (25), and an analog multiplexer (24). The latch circuit (2l) holds the video data only once during one horizontal scanning period till the next latch pulse M is generated, thus considerably reducing current dissipation.
