    Abstract: N-Substituted 2,2,6,6-tetraalkyl piperidines and their salts or metal complexes stabilized acid-catalyzed acrylic polyester or alkyd stoving lacquers against light, moisture, & O. Thus, a maleic acidcatalyzed acrylic metal-effect coating contg. 1% 1,2,2,6,6,-pentamethyl-4-piperidinol was coated to 30μm on Al, dried, baked 30min at 150≦̸C, kept 4 wk at 23≦̸C and 50% relative humidity, and exposed to UV light for 900 hr resulting in 20≦̸C gloss 66 and wt. loss 6.5g/m2.

    Abstract: Sterically hindered cyclic amines which are substituted by a photoactivatable acyl group at the basic nitrogen atom can be deacylated by irradiation with UV light. This is advantageous if the basicity of the amines proves troublesome during application. Examples of such photoactivatable acyl groups are phenylglyoxyl, phenylacetyl or naphthylacetyl groups.
