In one embodiment, a method includes capturing a facial image (32, Fig. 3) of a participant to a video conference session (10, Fig. 1) from a video stream of the video conference session. A database (23, Fig. 1) containing a plurality a stored facial images is then accessed in an attempt to match the facial image with one of the stored facial images. Each stored facial image is associated with information in the database associated with a person, the information being retrieved in the event of a match. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure.

A system and method for enabling an enhanced camp-on feature for a communications device. In an illustrative embodiment, the system includes a first mechanism for providing information pertaining to why a first user of a first communications device is unable to be contacted. A second mechanism enables a second user of a second communications device to make a camp-on selection based on the information. In a more specific embodiment, the information includes state information pertaining to the first communications device. The first means includes a fist module running on the first communications device. The first module is adapted to selectively relay the state information to an entity connected to the network. In the specific embodiment, the entity connected to the network includes Private Branch eXchange (PBX) system.

[56] In one embodiment, techniques for sending a conference invite that provides access to a list of participants in an existing conference are provided. A participant in a conference (104-1... 104-n) may decide to send an invite for the existing conference to the user (106). A request for inviting the user into the existing conference is received. A list of participants in the existing conference is determined. An invite message for the conference is then generated where the invite message includes information for the list of participants (104-1... 104-n). The invite message is then sent to the user (106) where the information for the list of participants is accessible to the user. For example, the list of participants may be displayed as caller ID information when the invite message is received by the user.

In one embodiment, a method includes electronically detecting a gesture of a user listening to a speaker via a communication device, and generating an audible and/or visual response that corresponds to the gesture. A method of facilitating a telephonic response to an electronic message is described. The method includes determining at least one telephone number from a received electronic message, and assigning the determined telephone number dynamically to a button on the telephone to provide a speed dial button on the telephone. Determining the telephone number may include comparing an electronic mail address in an address field of the electronic message with a telephone directory to determine a telephone number associated with the address. If the electronic message is a text or a voice message, determining the telephone number may include parsing a body of the message to determine a telephone number, if present, which has been included into the body of the text message.

Multiple authors' voices can be used in a text-to-speech (TTS) conversion of an email thread so that each part of the thread is read in that author's voice. A tag is used to identify which text portion corresponds to which author. Voice characteristics can be originated from an author's sending device or can be centrally stored in a voice characteristic database at a unified messaging server and provided to a recipient of the email thread. A similar approach can be used in a single document such as a change-tracked document that is being edited by multiple authors. The different voice characteristics of authors corresponding to different parts of the document can be accessed for TTS conversion so that a person listening on an audio device (e.g., phone, VoIP phone, cell phone, etc.) can identify the author of a specific part without the use of text or other displayed information. Voice characteristics can be centrally stored and delivered to users of audio devices to be used with a variety of text communications.

A system for handling service requests received from end-users that include telephone callers and persons who are physically present at a branch or store. The system includes an ACD (15) and a ticket dispenser(17) coupled with the ACD. The ticket dispenser being operable to first dispense a ticket having an identifier to each person who requests service at the branch or store, and then electronically communicate the identifier to the ACD. Techniques and systems for recalling voicemail messages from remote voicemail systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for recalling a voicemail message from a target mailbox can include: accessing a voicemail system by a caller using a device; authenticating the caller using speaker verification; and deleting the voicemail message from the target mailbox. The target mailbox owner can be a member of the voicemail system, while the caller can be a non-member of that voicemail system. The device may be configured to support a telephony user interface (TUI), for example.

The present invention provides a mechanism for categorizing telephone calls and for providing special information about calls that appear on call lists maintained in a telephone. The invention provides for both providing an indication and for providing an action. When an entry on a call list is highlighted (in a conventional manner), pressing one key adds a flag to the entry on the call list to indicate that follow up action is required. Pressing a second key initiates an action such as attaching a reminder so that the user will be reminded to take action later. Pressing a third key will provide a text message balloon indicating information about the call. The flags and text messages can be added by either the called party or the calling party.

Methods and systems for providing dynamic messages to callers on hold are disclosed. In one such method, a telephone call is received into a queue and a first wait time is calculated which corresponds to a first estimated length of time expected to elapse before an agent is available to answer the telephone call. A plurality of message elements are assembled to create a message having a length approximately equal to the first wait time, and playback of the message is initiated. A second wait time is calculated during the playback of the message. The message is modified during playback to have a length approximately equal to the second wait time if the updated estimated length of time is different than the first estimated length of time. In various embodiments, the second wait time may be continuously calculated and the message may be continuously modified during playback.
