Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a small-sized high-accuracy separator for chromatography by using a reactor which forms a capillary tube-like passage having a diameter of 5μ to 35Å between each fiber by using a casing housing many fibers having diameters of 20μ to about 1/100μ and lengths of 1cm to several cm in an arranged state. CONSTITUTION: A separator for chromatography is incorporated with an injecting device 1 for a fluid 2 which is composed of the mixture of gases or liquids. The device 1 maintained at a constant temperature by means of a constant-temperature device leads a fluid 2 to a reactor 4 positioned in a constant-temperature chamber 5. The reactor 4 is composed of a casing in which many fibers composed of pure metals and alloys of aluminum, magnesium, transition metals, and precious metals and such an amorphous material as glass, silica, etc., are arranged. The fibers have diameters of 20μ to about 1/100μ and lengths of 1cm to several cm and a capillary tube-like passage of 5μ to 35Å in diameter is formed between each fiber. Therefore, a small-sized high- accuracy separator can be obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce a weight and section and to make an optical fiber cable usable under a mechanically severe environment by including plurality of parallel metallic reinforcing members parallel with an optical fiber and coating the fiber and the reinforcing members with a coating of a plastic material. CONSTITUTION: The optical fiber has a diameter of 250 microns and is composed of a glass core and a protective coating and is arranged among nine strands 3 taken up on a supporting body 4. The respective strands 3 consist of several tens thousands of basic filaments having a diameter of about 0.5 micron. The bundle composed of the strands 3 and the fiber 2 is passed through one set of combing machine 5 and die 6 so that the tense bundle is obtd. before the bundle enters an electrostatic powder coating device 7. The longitudinal tensile force corresponding to about 50% of the elastic limit of the bundle is kept applied on the bundle to prevent the various constituting members of the bundle 8 from being parted too much from each other within the device 7. The bundle 9 consisting of the plural wires coated with the powder is immediately passed into a furnace 18 and is baked for one minute at a temp. below 250 deg.C. As a result, the cable usable under the mechanically severe conditions is obtd. since the section and weight are small, the easy operation is enabled in spite of the long length.
