    Abstract: Disclosed is an ostomy appliance (10) comprising a pouch (18) including a filter (22). Present ostomy pouches with filters suffer from leakage, clogging and insufficient deodorisation. The ostomy appliance (10) comprises two opposing panels (12, 14). The panels (12, 14) are at least partly sealed to one another along their peripheries. The panels (12, 14) form a pouch (18) which captures body waste. One of the opposing panels (14) includes a stomal opening (20) for positioning around a stoma, so that body waste excreted through the stoma is captured in the pouch (18). The pouch (18) comprises a filter (22) for deodorisation of odorous gas from the body waste and an opening for emitting the deodorised gas to the atmosphere. A pleated centre panel (28) is located between the two opposing panels (12, 14) and at least partly covers the filter (22) for protection. The centre panel (28) further deters ballooning of the pouch (18) from gas build up in the pouch (18).

    Abstract: An ostomy appliance including an ostomy pouch with a filter and a center pleated panel to protect the filter, facilitate deodorization and deter ballooning. One aspect of the invention in the filter design to improve the clogging resistance by using the newly developed pleated center panel design. This design includes a filter in the front panel of the pouch and a center panel of film that is intended to shield the filter from direct exposure to stool that is expelled from the stoma. The center panel has at least one pleat, and preferably two pleats, that are intentionally formed into the center panel. These pleats allow the gas to travel from the stoma area into the filter area while preventing a majority of the stool from get to and fouling the filter.

    Abstract: An ostomy coupling is disclosed comprising a floatable coupling part. The coupling part is supported with respect to an adhesive wafer by means of a flexible support collar that permits displacement of the coupling part in a floatable manner. The flexible collar comprises plastics film and has bistable shapes. The collar is configured to hold the coupling part stably in (i) an extended position spaced from the adhesive wafer, to facilitate an ostomate to manually brace the coupling part in order to relieve the attachment force when an ostomy appliance is press fitted to the coupling part, and (ii) in a retracted position close to the adhesive wafer.

    Abstract: An adapter is disclosed for an ostomy coupling. The adapter provides a floatable coupling characteristic to an ostomy body fitment that has a non-floatable coupling part. The adapter comprises a first coupling part for attaching to the non-floating coupling part of the body fitment, a second coupling part for releasably attaching to an ostomy appliance, and a flexible collar between the first and second coupling parts. The flexible collar permits the second coupling part to be displaced away from the first coupling part, thereby creating a space for an ostomate to manually brace the second coupling part against an attachment force when an appliance is fitted.
