    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and an apparatus in which a Q-switching operation in a gain cavity is suppressed by a method wherein a second separate dichroic filter having a filter function which is different from that of a first separate filter or the like is contained. SOLUTION: Additional filters F1 , F2 are built in a wavelength multiple multiplexer WDM. From a port B1, a signal λ1 at a wavelength is transmitted to a port B3 through the dielectric filters F1 , F2 , and it is output to the direction of the east. At this time, a high transmittance insertion loss is displayed from about 1520nm up to 1545nm, a high transmittance is displayed from about 1549nm up to 1564nm, and a high transmittance insertion loss is displayed again from about 1564nm onward. A signal λ2 at a wavelength, e.g. a blue signal which is propagated to the west from the east is input to the port B3. It is reflected by a port B2 so as to be propagated to a port A1. The signal is reflected to a port A4 from the port A1, and it is sent through a filter amplifier EDFA so as to reach the port B1. The signal is reflected to a port B4 from the port B1 so as to be sent to a port A3, and it is reflected so as to be sent out to the west. This is because the filters F1 , F2 display a high transmittance with reference to the blue signal, and an abnormal transmission and an abnormal reflection at a 3dB wavelength are suppressed by the additional filters F1 , F2 .
