Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate having high mechanical strength and low heat shrinkage for application of a display, other active electronic elements and a package of an optical element or the like. SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a laminated sheet, wherein a first viscous fluid material is supplied to a first overflow passage; the first viscous fluid material is overflowed with a controlled manner to form a first plate flow having at least one non-contact surface of fire-polished quality; a laminated flow having at least one non-contact surface of fire-polished quality is formed by combining a second material with the first plate flow; and the laminated flow is drawn out to a laminated sheet. The second material is combined with the first plate flow by one step selected from: (a) forming a second plate flow from the second material using the continuous sol-gel process; (b) arranging the second plate material in a passage of the first viscous fluid material to generate compositional variation in the specific part of the first viscous fluid material, wherein the second material is a material of nucleus formation for glass ceramics; or (c) forming a second plate flow from the second material by overflowing the second material from one side of an overflow passage with the controlled manner. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a glass sheet from being damaged or prevent a defect from being formed therein by embedding of a particulate material into the surface of a traction roller or by dropping of the particulate material from the traction roller, concerning the traction roller used for forming the glass sheet.SOLUTION: Traction rollers 200a, 200b each has a shaft member 202, and a soft cover assembly positioned on the shaft member. The soft cover assembly contains one or more traction disks having a plurality of spring members 204 and a circular hub 206 formed integrally therewith. The plurality of spring members are projected from the circular hub to the outside so that each free tip part thereof is positioned on the outside radially from the base end. When the soft cover assembly is brought into contact with the surface of a glass sheet, the spring members are deformed to the inside radially toward the center of the circular hub, to thereby prevent the glass sheet from being damaged.

A laminated sheet includes a surface layer having an optical surface that is of fire-polished quality and a core layer having a higher modulus than the surface layer to increase an overall stiffness or fracture toughness of the laminated sheet.
Abstract:
A pull roll assembly is described herein that is used to draw a glass sheet. The pull roll assembly includes a first roll assembly, a second roll assembly and a device (e.g., differential drive, sensor(s)). The device enables one to control the first and/or second roll assemblies based in part on pulling forces (e.g., glass contact normal force and/or required sheet pulling force) associated with a glass sheet while the glass sheet is being drawn between the first and second roll assemblies. A glass manufacturing system and method for using the pull roll assembly are also described herein.
