Abstract:
The present invention provides a ceramic precursor batch composition comprising inorganic ceramic-forming ingredients, a binder, an aqueous solvent and a chaotropic agent. The presence of the chaotropic agent provides a composition with a lower viscosity and/or a greater batch stiffening temperature allowing for increased extrusion feedrates. Methods for producing a ceramic honeycomb body using the ceramic precursor batch composition of the present invention are also provided.
Abstract:
A method of inhibiting the gelling of a silica forming siloxane feedstock and the gelling inhibited silica feedstock which includes an end capping compound. The method of inhibiting the gelling of a siloxane feedstock during the silica glass manufacturing process includes end capping the siloxane feedstock prior to converting the siloxane feedstock into silica.
Abstract:
An ophthalmic lens embodying an organic plastic lens member having a refractive index of at least 1.56 and being the cured product of a monomeric formulation. The formulation contains a resin monomer base, a curing agent selected from aromatic anhydrides, aromatic diamines, thioamides and thioamines, and a refractive index enhancing additive selected from alkyl or aromatic diols or thiols and transition metal alkoxides. The organic plastic lens member may be an integral, monofocal lens, or a segment embedded in a cavity in the front, convex surface of an organic plastic, major lens member having a lesser refractive index. The latter may have a thin, inorganic glass lens member adhered to its front, convex surface to produce a glass-plastic, laminated, multifocal lens structure.
Abstract:
A method of producing a glass-plastic, laminated, ophthalmic lens structure in a continuous operation. A thin, flexible, plastic adhesive layer is applied to a glass element to form a composite body that is inserted in a cylindrical gasket in such manner as to fit snugly and be sealed from the ambient. A monomeric formulation is flowed onto the adhesive layer and cured to form a laminated lens blank.

A method of producing a glass-plastic, laminated, ophthalmic lens structure in a continuous operation. A thin, flexible, plastic adhesive layer (16) is applied to a glass element (12) to form a composite body (16) that is inserted in a cylindrical gasket (32) in such manner as to fit snugly and be sealed from the ambient. A monomeric formulation is flowed onto the adhesive layer and cured to form a laminated lens blank.

Abstract:
A system and method is disclosed for measuring in real-time the moisture content of a ceramic-forming batch material to be extruded to form a ceramic article. The system includes a moisture-content-measurement (MCM) system that measures optical absorbance. Material-specific batch calibration samples can be used to calibrate optical absorption measurements to accurate moisture-content measurements. Because the surface of the batch material tends to dry during the extrusion process, a batch-material-removal (BMR) device is used to remove or displace batch surface material so that the moisture content of the underlying batch material can be measured.
Abstract:
This invention relates to production of high purity fused silica glass doped with titania using titanium chelates. Useful chelates include titanium acetylacetonate, and titanium ethyl acetoacetate among others.
