Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the mass production of an optical fiber polarizer and to enhance a cost effect. SOLUTION: The optical fiber polarizer made by a process including stages of providing a substrate, coupling or embedding a single mode optical fiber to the substrate, forming a narrow trench to cross the fiber at a certain angle, thereby dividing the fiber core into two; a first fiber core end and a second fiber core; then inserting and fixing a polarizing material of a monolithic and non-laminated structure in such a manner that the light spot radiated from the first fiber core is completely received in the polarizing material and the light spot emerging from the polarizing material is substantially condensed into the mode field diameter of the second fiber core. The width of the narrow trench is about 30 to 50 μm and the thickness of the polarizing material is about 15 to 50 μm. This process is the non-alignment process which is easy, does not require the use of the specially treated fiber and permits high-speed mass production. The many polarizers may thus be manufactured at a time.
