    Abstract: Producing a sheet from a vitreous material by pressing between contra-rotating rolls to reduce at least locally the thickness of the sheet (F) to a predetermined thickness. The thickness of the sheet is reduced progressively by a sequence of successive passes through the contra-rotating rolls (1i, 2i, 3i) whilst maintaining the average viscosity of the sheet between 5.104 and 109 poise, at least before the last pass between the rolls. The sheet is reduced from its initial thickness (e) in a succession of small steps (e1 , e2 , e3 ) in order to overcome problems associated with differential shrinkage. Also claimed are (I) a device consisting of a number of pairs of contra-rotating rolls (1i, 2i, 3i), a set of conveyors (4i ) and heating systems (5I) between the pairs of rolls, and, (II) a control plate for a flat screen for displaying cathode ray images, consisting of a network of electrodes carried by a glass sheet.

    Abstract: The semi-cylindrical one-piece glass profiles, for support posts for electrical and telephone cables and the like, has a semi-cylindrical wall of at least 3 m length, a width of at least 0.1 m and a thickness of at least 5 mm, with edges at right angles to the wall. Also claimed is a mfg. process where the molten glass is shaped between two rotating profiled units. They form a glass strip with a lateral section where the centre is thinner than the edges with relatively strong zones between the centre of the strip and the edges. The strip is distorted into a concave profile between its edges with a depth, as a spout with a hollow increasing curvature as far as the edges next to the shaping units, according to the required shape of the semi-cylindrical glass profile. The profile are annealed and cut to length.

    Abstract: The plasma display screen has the substrate formed in three stages. In the first stage a flat metallic plate (1) is formed, with pre-formed assemblies of electrodes. The second stage covers these pre-formed assemblies with a layer of a dielectric material (3) which moulds itself over and into the spaces between the electrodes. In the third stage the covering is removed from the top of electrodes, leaving the top exposed but the electrodes separated by an insulating material. The material used in the second stage is glass with a deposit of magnesium oxide over the top. The top of the bared electrodes is coated with luminescent materials (R,V,B), with adjacent electrodes carrying different colour luminescent material.
