Abstract: The component comprises at least one waveguide (5) integrated into a glass substrate (1) and connected to the end of an optical fibre (2) fixed to the substrate at this end and, at a region far from the latter, by, respectively, first (7) and second (8) spots of an adhesive substance. The adhesive substance forming the spot (7) has a glass transition temperature located in a predetermined temperature range for use of the component, whereas the adhesive substance forming the spot (8) has a glass transition temperature located above this temperature range. In this way, differential expansions are absorbed so as to maintain the optical continuity of the fibre/waveguide assembly and the mechanical cohesion of the fibre/substrate connection.

Abstract: The glass substrate (1) has waveguide tracks (2) on its surface and a grooved channel (4). The fibre optic cables are stripped at their ends (5), and each stripped section is placed across the channel and along the surface of the substrate, to connect to the track. A bar section (8) above the substrate holds the fibre-optic cable in place and a second bar (9) has channels (11) for the passage of the fibre-optic, held in place on the substrate by an adhesive (16). USE/ADVANTAGE - Eg for divider or multiplexer. Allows multiple fibre-optic connections without loosening of adhesive fastening.

Abstract: The fibers are connected to the component by adhesive means comprising a plurality of drops (11i,12i) of an adhesive product, each of them fixing to the component between 1 and (N-1) adjacent fibers of the array, each of these drops being non-contiguous with at least one other of these drops, and at least one of the drops being longitudinally and laterally offset with respect to at least one other drop of the plurality. The substrate has furthermore transverse (4,7,13) and longitudinal (141,142,143) clearance grooves that delimit the extension surface of each drop (111,112,121,122). During the manufacture of the component according to the invention, the product constituting the adhesive is applied in a fluid state upon four locations of the step (61,62) delimited by the grooves cited above. Among them, one notices the additional transverse groove (13) that divides step (61,62) in two parts, according to the invention. As a result of surface tension phenomena, the spreading of the fluid drops stops at the edges of the rectangular surfaces delimited by the grooves. It is therefore avoided that drops deposited on separated areas eventually join each other, resulting in larger drops and therefore drops that are more sensitive to detachment phenomena.

Abstract: An integrated optical component comprising at least one waveguide integrated into a substrate (1) and connected to the end of an optical fiber (2) which is attached to the substrate at said fiber end and in an region separated from said fiber end by a first drop (7) of adhesive and a second drop (8) of adhesive, respectively. The adhesive product which constitutes the first drop has a glass transition temperature located in a predetermined operating temperature range of the component, while the adhesive product which constitutes the second drop has a glass transition temperature located generally above this operating temperature range, thereby assuring the absorption of differential expansions in such a way as to maintain the optical continuity of the fiber/waveguide attachment and the mechanical strength of the fiber/substrate attachment.

Abstract: An adhesive product [9] in the liquid state is deposited in a plurality of parallel, rectilinear, and equidistant grooves [6i] formed in a flat surface of a substrate [5]; each of the stripped ends [1i] of the fibers in the sheet is introduced into a corresponding groove [6i], and the ends of the fibers are held in the grooves with the aid of a plate [13] affixed to these grooves. In accordance with the invention, because the adhesive product [9] is still in the liquid state, the entire collection of the ends [1i] of the fibers extending from the grooves [6i] is pressed against a facing flat portion [13'] of the plate [13] extending from the substrate [5], and this pressure is maintained until the adhesive product [9] hardens and the plate [13] is glued.
