Abstract: An article that includes: a substrate having a glass, glass-ceramic or a ceramic composition and comprising a primary surface; and a protective film disposed on the primary surface. The protective film comprises a thickness of greater than 1.5 microns and a maximum hardness of greater than 15 GPa at a depth of 500 nanometers, as measured on the film disposed on the substrate. Further, the protective film comprises a metal oxynitride that is graded such that an oxygen concentration in the film varies by 1.3 or more atomic %. In addition, the substrate comprises an elastic modulus less than an elastic modulus of the film.

Abstract: A display article is described herein that includes: a substrate comprising a thickness and primary surface; a diffractive surface region defined by the primary surface; and an antireflective coating disposed on the diffractive surface region. The diffractive surface region comprises structural features that comprise different heights in a multimodal distribution. The substrate exhibits a sparkle of 1.8. The article exhibits a first-surface average visible specular reflectance of less than 0.2% at an incident angle of 20°, and a maximum hardness of ≥8 GPa in a Berkovich Indenter Hardness Test.

Abstract: An ultraviolet light-resistant article that includes: a substrate having a glass or glass-ceramic composition and first and second primary surfaces; an ultraviolet light-absorbing element having a an absorptivity greater than 50% at wavelengths from about 100 nm to about 380 nm and a thickness between about 10 nm and about 100 nm; and a dielectric stack formed with a plasma-enhanced process. Further, the light-absorbing element is between the substrate and the dielectric stack. Alternatively, the light-absorbing element can include one or more ultraviolet light-resistant layers disposed within the dielectric stack over the first primary surface.

Abstract: A window for a sensing system is provided that includes: a substrate comprising an outer and an inner primary surface; an outer layered film disposed on the outer primary surface; and an inner layered film disposed on the inner primary surface. Each of the outer and inner layered films comprises alternating high index and low index layers. The outer layered film comprises a scratch resistant layer having a thickness from about 0.5 μm to about 10 μm, and exhibits a hardness of at least 11 GPa, as measured with a Berkovich Indenter Hardness Test. The window exhibits an average transmittance of greater than 85% within ±25 nm of at least one wavelength within the infrared spectrum from 900 nm to 1600 nm and an average transmittance of less than 5% in the visible spectrum from 420 nm to 650 nm, each at an angle of incidence

Abstract: A window for a sensing system includes a first layered film and a second layered film. The first and second layered film each include alternating layers of lower and higher refractive index materials. The first layered film includes a scratch resistant layer such that the window exhibits a maximum nanoindentation hardness of greater than or equal to 10 GPa when indented on the first layered film. The materials and thicknesses of the layers of the first and second layered films are selected such that the window exhibits relatively high transmittance and low reflectance in two distinct wavelength ranges of interest.

Abstract: A coated article with a substrate having a major surface that comprises a first portion and a second portion that is curved or faceted; and an optical coating on the major surface that forms an anti-reflective surface. A first direction is normal to the first portion and is not equal to a plurality of second directions that are normal to the second portion, and the angle between the first direction and each of the second directions is from about 10 degrees to 60 degrees. Further, the coated article exhibits at the first and second portion a hardness of about 8 GPa or greater at an indentation depth of about 100 nm or greater. Further, the coated article exhibits a single side maximum reflectance of about 3% or less as the first and second portion, wherein the reflectance is measured in a range from about 425 nm to about 950 nm.

Abstract: A display article is described herein that includes: a substrate comprising a thickness and a primary surface; a textured surface region; and an antireflective coating disposed on the textured surface region. The textured surface region comprises structural features and an average texture height (Rtext) from 50 nm to 300 nm. The substrate exhibits a sparkle of less than 5%, as measured by PPD140, and a transmittance haze of less than 40%, at a 0° incident angle. The antireflective coating comprises alternating high refractive index and low refractive index layers. Each of the low index layers comprises a refractive index of less than or equal to 1.8, and each of the high index layers comprises a refractive index of greater than 1.8. The article also exhibits a first-surface average photopic specular reflectance (% R) of less than 0.3% at any incident angle from about 5° to 20° from normal at visible wavelengths.
