Abstract: A liquid diluting and transfer valve (10) with disc like valve elements (12, 14, 16) with faces (12', 14', 14'', 16') which are frictionally engaged. Each disc like valve element (12, 14, 16) further includes passageways (30, 64, 66, 70, 73, 32) which can be used to pass both sample liquid and rinse liquid. A continuous groove (100) is formed in one of the respective faces (12', 16') for effectively isolating the passageway openings (30, 64, 66, 70, 73, 32) to the face (12', 16'). The continuous groove (100) is capable of blocking passage of material leaking along the face (12', 16') to the periphery of that engaged face (12', 16').
