Abstract:
A surgical device includes a shaft, first and second end effectors extending distally from the shaft in spaced-apart relation relative to one another to define an area therebetween, and a resection member configured for positioning at least partially within the area defined between the first and second end effectors. Each of the first and second end effectors includes opposing portions movable relative to one another and configured to grasp tissue therebetween. The resection member is configured to extend distally beyond the first and second end effectors, is selectively energizable, and is configured to resect tissue grasped between the first and second end effectors.
Abstract:
A guide member configured for guiding a suture passer through a cannula and tissue surrounding the cannula to facilitate closure of an opening in tissue. The guide member includes a guide housing and an elongated guide shaft. The guide housing is configured for releasably engaging the guide member with the cannula and defines an entry aperture. The elongated guide shaft extends distally from the guide housing and defines an annular exterior surface. An exit aperture is defined through the annular exterior surface. The guide member defines a lumen extending from the entry aperture, through the guide housing and the elongated guide shaft, to the exit aperture. The entry aperture, lumen, and exit aperture cooperating to define a passageway extending through the guide member.
Abstract:
A system includes a wound closure device having a shaft, proximal and distal arms coupled to the shaft, and one or more linkages coupling the proximal and distal aims. The arms are pivotable relative to the shaft between a linear position, wherein the arms and shaft are linearly aligned, a first pivoted position, wherein the proximal arm is pivoted in a first direction to pivot the distal arm in a second, opposite direction, and a second pivoted position, wherein the proximal arm is pivoted in the second direction to pivot the distal arm in the first direction. A suture including a first portion disposed about a first surface of the distal arm and a second portion disposed about a second surface of the distal aim is also provided.
Abstract:
A tissue specimen retrieval device includes a first shaft and a second shaft telescopically movable relative to the first shaft. The second shaft supports an end effector assembly at a distal end thereof. The end effector assembly includes a tissue specimen bag supported by a first bag arm and a second bag arm. The first and second bag arms open the tissue specimen bag when the second shaft is in the deployed position. An insertion cap extends outwardly from the tissue specimen bag. The insertion cap retains the first and second bag arms at distal ends thereof. The insertion cap includes a release mechanism. The release mechanism releases the first and second bag arms from the insertion cap upon retraction of the second shaft from the deployed position.
Abstract:
A surgical device for closing a vaginal cuff includes a handle having an elongated shaft and a plurality of needles disposed therein. Each needle includes a suture anchor at a distal end thereof having a suture engaged therewith. An anvil is disposed at a distal end of the elongated shaft. A cutting mechanism is operably associated with the handle and is configured to cut tissue upon actuation thereof. A firing mechanism is operably associated with the handle and is movable between an unactuated position wherein the plurality of needles and suture anchors remain retained within the elongated shaft, an actuated position wherein the plurality of needles and suture anchors deploy from the elongated shaft through the cervical tissue, and a reverted position wherein the plurality of needles retract leaving the plurality of suture anchors and sutures engaged with the cervical tissue for tying off the vaginal cuff.
Abstract:
A uterine manipulator includes a shaft defining a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, a handle operably coupled to the proximal end portion of the shaft, and a distal assembly operably coupled to the distal end portion of the shaft. The distal assembly includes a colpotomy cup and an elongated tip extending distally from the colpotomy cup. At least a portion of the distal assembly is releasable from the distal end portion of the shaft and configured to engage tissue and to operably couple to a surgical tool to enable the surgical tool to perform at least one surgical task on tissue engaged by the at least a portion of the distal assembly.
Abstract:
An occlusion device includes a body having a plurality of layers and defining a first diameter. Each layer of the plurality of layers is releasably coupled to a respective inwardly-adjacent layer. An outermost layer of the plurality of layers is removable from the respective inwardly-adjacent layer. Removal of the outermost layer reduces an outer diameter of the body from the first diameter to a second diameter that is less than the first diameter.
Abstract:
An expandable occlusion device is provided including an expandable occluder expandable from a compressed state to an expanded state to sealingly engage tissue. An outer sheath that defines a longitudinal axis may be disposed about the expandable occluder. The outer sheath may be configured to compress the expandable occluder and maintain the expandable occluder in the compressed state. A pull cord may be operably coupled to the outer sheath and selectively manipulatable to tear the outer sheath such that the outer sheath is removed from the expandable occluder allowing the expandable occluder to expand from the compressed state to the expanded state.
Abstract:
A colpotomy system includes a colpotomy cup that extends to a distal surface and defines a longitudinal axis. The colpotomy system further includes a cutter operably coupled to the colpotomy cup and configured to travel along an arcuate path defined about the distal surface of the colpotomy cup. The cutter actuatable to separate a uterus from a vagina as the cutter rotates about the longitudinal axis of the colpotomy cup.
Abstract:
A specimen retrieval device includes a tubular body defining a longitudinal bore, an articulation shaft disposed within the longitudinal bore of the tubular body, and a specimen receptacle affixed to a support mechanism at the distal portion of the tubular body. In embodiments, the specimen receptacle has two openings which may be used to transfer a tissue specimen from within a patient's body cavity to outside of the patient's body.
