Abstract:
Resins including a copolymer which essentially comprises 81-99 % wt. of alkenylaromatic units and 1-19 % wt. of terpene units, and further characterized in that they contain 0.1-0.7 % of hydrogens bonded to non-aromatic unsaturated carbons. A method for preparing the resins comprises a first step of treating a cut of alkenylaromatic monomers to remove essentially all the chromophoric compounds which might dye the resin and/or spoil its properties, and a second step of cationically copolymerizing a mixture which comprises (a) 88-99 % wt. of treated cut resulting from the first step, and (b) 1-12 % wt. of a cut which includes at least one terpene monomer. Said resins are useful as components for adhesive formulations.
Abstract:
Fiber-reinforced plastic articles having a gel coat with high initial gloss and extended gloss retention are made by a process comprising the steps of: A) spreading a peroxide-curable gel coat composition over the surface of a mold that is in negative relief of the article to be molded; B) at least partially curing the gel coat composition; C) spreading a fiber reinforced, plastic composition over the at least partially cured gel coat composition to form a laminate; and D, curing the laminate to form the fiber-reinforced plastic article.
Abstract:
An aqueous polymeric emulsion prepared from a monomeric composition which comprises, for 100 parts by weight of the composition, 60-100 parts by weight of at least one acrylic or methacrylic ester derived from an acrylic or methacrylic acid and an alcohol having 1-12 carbon atoms; 0-40 parts by weight of at least one vinyl aromatic monomer; 0-5 parts by weight of at least one short-chain, alpha - beta -unsaturated mono- or polycarboxylic acid; and 0-3 parts by weight of at least one short-chain alpha , beta -unsaturated amide. Around 80-98 wt % of the monomeric composition is added to a reaction medium which already contains a partially polymerised pre-emulsion of 2-20 wt % of the monomeric components, the average particle size of the polymer in said partially polymerised pre-emulsion being no higher than 95 nm. Said aqueous polymeric emulsion is useful for preparing plasticiser-free and coalescing agent-free paints having excellent washability.
Abstract:
Composition capable of being transformed into a foam comprising a polymeric resin-based blend and an effective quantity of blowing agent in relation to said resin. The agent comprises at least one α, β hydroxylated hydrocarbon nitride. Application in the manufacture of synthetic foam objects.
