Abstract: The apparatus incorporates a microcomputer (MC) which coordinates and manages the means (TA, GA) for the acceptance of the signals emanating from the user, the means (GE, LS) for the collection of the payment means, the means (S1, S2, M1, M2) set to control and to execute the operations relating to the payment and the means (D2, FC, FS) which transmit appropriate signals to the user, and is connected to means (GS, F2) which permit the dialogue thereof with a telephone exchange for which the apparatus is certificated. The microcomputer specifies the collection and the return of payment means of a plurality of types and denominations; moreover, on the basis of data previously stored within the same and of data acquired during a communication, it establishes the type of conversation and transmits the pertinent information to the exchange. By virtue of this arrangement, it is possible to use as payment means, along with or as an alternative to coins or tokens, bank notes or subscription cards as well.
