Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method and device to control accurately a phase of a clock signal transferred along with an optical fiber between two points. SOLUTION: A signal to be controlled is sent along with an optical fiber 3 by a wavelength tunable laser 2 whose radiation wavelength is varied as a function of possible phase fluctuation in a reception signal with respect to a reference phase. At a receiving end of the optical fiber 3, part of power of the reception signal is extracted and sent back toward a transmission end, then a control signal is generated. At a transmitter end, a phase of part of the power is compared with a phase of an original signal and the tunable laser 2 is driven so that clock information with a wavelength is sent to be reached to the receiving end having the reference phase.

Abstract: The signal to be controlled is sent along an optical fibre (3) by means of a wavelength tunable laser (2) whose emission wavelength may be varied as a fu nction of a possible phase variation in the received signal with respect to a refer ence phase. At the receiving end of the fibre a control signal is generated by extractin g a fraction of the power associated with the received signal and sending such fraction back towards the transmitting end, and at the transmitting end the phase of said fraction is compared with that of the original signal and the tunable laser is driven (2) in such a way as to transmit at a wavelength such that the clock information reaches the receivi ng end with the reference phase.

Abstract: A laser device, if directly amplitude modulated, exhibits an unwanted frequency modulation which broadens its emission spectrum. The unwanted frequency modulation is eliminated by carrying out a conversion of the modulated optical signal wavelength, using a semiconductor optical amplifier as a converter and another nonmodulated laser as a conversion signal generator. Wavelength conversion takes place in the amplifier due to gain modulation induced by saturation. An output signal at the conversion signal frequency, taken from a filter following the converter, presents an amplitude modulation equal and opposite to that of the modulated signal at input, but does not show frequency modulation.

The second sensor (11) is associated with the said package (P) in such a way as to generate a second temperature signal indicating the external temperature, and the aforesaid reference signal (rifv) is modified as a function of the said second temperature signal, providing effective temperature control of the component (1).
