    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a filter in the shape of a resonant cavity properly balanced of a small size, filter directionality and a dead spectrum range. CONSTITUTION: In an integrated resonant cavity optical filter, the resonant cavity 2 is obtained with optical waveguide parts 5a to 5c, 6a to 6c, 7 and 8 generating two confronting Y-shaped couplers connected at the tips of Y-arms 5a, 5b, 7, 6a, 6b and 8. The Y-arms 5a, 5b, 7, 6a, 6b and 8 are a single mode waveguide part and on the other hand, Y-legs 5c and 6c are selected two-mode waveguide with a length where radiation reflected at free tips 9 and 10 to enter one of the two-mode parts 5c and 6c from one of the single mode parts 5a and 6b passed through from the same two-mode part the tip of which reflects the radiation to the other single mode parts 5b and 5a of the cavity 2.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To enable the formation of precision patterns by electric field support in the manufacture of an optical integrated circuit by an ion exchange. CONSTITUTION: A substrate surface is first metallized. Further, this metallic film is coated with an insulator layer. Next, a mask formed by blanking desired patterns to constitute a mask is superposed thereon and the substrate is immersed into a soln. of a fused salt which is an ion source for the exchange. Voltage is impressed between the initially formed metallic film and the soln. and the optical integrated circuit is formed by the electric field supported ion exchange.
