Abstract: Working up oily metal residues (I) esp. from metal machining, involves washing with an aq. detergent soln. (II), if necessary after preliminary removal of oil and pulverisation followed by sepn. and drying. At least one washing operation is carried out in a mill contg. grinding elements, esp. tower mill, ball, tower grinding, agitator ball or ball mill by operating the mill for up to 2 hr. After discharging (II) at least one, a rinsing soln. is added and the mill is operated for up to 0.5 hrs., then the mill is stopped and (I) is allowed to settle. The contaminated rinsing soln. is run off, then (I) is discharged. (II) pref. contains a combination of nonionic and anionic surfactants, pref. an alkylphenyl polyglycol ether and an alkyl benzenesulphonate. It may also contain Na polyphosphate Na2CO3, Na2SO4 and water glass. USE/ADVANTAGE - The technique is suitable for working up (I) including very finely-divided (I) with very high oil contents. Reduces oil content to under 0.5% and also removes abrasive particles. (3pp Dwg.No.0/0)
