    Abstract: A polyglycidol, polyglycidol alkyl ether, polyglycidol alkyl ester or the like is obtained by reacting an oxirane compound represented by the general formula (1) below such as glycidol in the presence of an activated carbon powder, if necessary, using an initiator such as a polyhydric alcohol, aliphatic alcohol or aliphatic carboxylic acid.     Abstract: Polyglycerols significantly reduced in the content of polyglycerols having a cyclic structure formed by the removal of a water molecule from the polyglycerol molecule; and a polyglycerol/fatty acid ester having excellent surface activity. Two moles or more of glycidol and a catalyst are gradually added to and reacted with 1 mol of glycerol to obtain polyglycerols in which the ratio of the sum of polygylcerols (1) to the sum of polyglycerols having a cyclic structure (2) is (70% or more)/(30% or less) (the total of both is 100 wt.%) in terms of intensity ratio as determined by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry and which have an average degree of polymerization of 2 or higher. Reacting the polyglycerols with a fatty acid gives the corresponding polyglycerol/fatty acid ester.
