    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyurethane capable of presenting spandex filaments excellent in hydrolysis resistance by reacting a polyesterdiol containing diethylpentanediol and an organic diisocyanate. SOLUTION: This novel polyurethane is obtained by reacting (A) a polyesterdiol having preferably 500-5000 number average molecular weight and containing 2,4-diethy-1,5-pentanediol as a structural component with (B) an organic diisocyanate (e.g. 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate, isophorone diisocyanate, etc.). As the ingredient A, other diols such s ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and the like other than the aforesaid diols can be used together and, in this case 2,4-diethyl-1,5-pentanediol is preferably contained in >=5 mole %. The aforesaid polyurethane is not only used for usual polyurethane but presents spandex filaments excellent in resiliency, strength and hydrolysis resistance.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester-based UV-absorber excellent in compatibility with various kinds of synthetic resins and capable of giving stable and long-term resistance to light at high level without impairing desirable characteristics of synthetic resins by containing a polymer having any UV-absorbing groups. SOLUTION: This absorber has any UV-absorbing groups and preferably contains a compound of formula I [R and R are each H or a 2-10C alkyl; (n) and (n') are each an integer of 4-8; (m) and (m') are each 1-20] as an active principle. The UV-absorber of the formula I is preferably obtained by ring- opening addition polymerization of bis[3-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxy- benzeneethanol]methane with lactones of formula II (e.g. ε-caprolactone). The ring-opening addition polymerization is preferably conducted at 100-220 deg.C in the presence of a catalyst such as tetraethyltitanate in a quantity of 1-5000 ppm based on the charge stock. Preferably the weight ratio of synthetic resin to the UV-absorber of the formula I is (90-99.9):(10-0.1).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining the subject composition which shows excellent preventive effect for noxious organisms without dissolving any synthetic resin by using a polyglycerol monofatty acid ester as a dissolving auxiliary. SOLUTION: This composition is a liquid composition which dissolves phenyl salicylate in an oily solvent in an amount of 1-50w/v%. In this case, a polyglycerol fatty acid ester, in which a dissolving auxiliary for phenyl salicylate is eluted in the column chromatography and the peak area of polyglycerol monofatty acid ester of the formula (R is an alkyl substituted by an 6-21C alkyl, an alkenyl or hydroxyl; (n)>=4) detected by an ultraviolet absorption detector is more than 70% based on the whole area, is used. Further, a compound of the formula is obtained by reacting a fatty acid of the formula, RCOOH, with glycidol in the presence of phosphoric acid-based acidic catalyst. By this process, phenyl salicylate in the solution can be maintained in a stable dissolving state. This composition can afford insectidal effect to noxious organisms on building materials for housing, tatami mats and furnitures.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gelled emulsion cosmetic having high stability at high temperature, giving excellent feeling to the skin and having a proper viscosity by using a specific polyglycerol monofatty acid ester in combination with a liquid oil, glycerol and a polyhydric alcohol. SOLUTION: A polyglycerol monofatty acid ester synthesized from a fatty acid and glycidol and having high monoester content (especially preferably decaglyceryl monolaurate, etc.) is compounded with a liquid oil, glycerol and a polyhydric alcohol (excluding glycerol). The amount of the monofatty acid ester is about 1-6wt.% based on the total composition. The liquid oil is e.g. a liquid paraffin or octanoic acid. The polyhydric alcohol other than glycerol is e.g. propylene glycol or 1,3-butylene glycol and its amount is about 1-5wt.%. The compounding amount of glycerol is about 30-60wt.%. The cosmetic is good for cleansing, massaging, etc.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a W/O-type emulsified cosmetic giving excellent feeling to the skin, having high stability with time and exhibiting extremely low viscosity even at a high oil content by using a specific emulsifying agent. SOLUTION: A polyglycerol monofatty acid ester derived from a fatty acid and a glycidol and having high monoester content is used as an emulsifying agent in combination with glycerol, an oil base and water. The sum of the polyglycerol monofatty acid ester, glycerol and the oil base is preferably 50-70wt.%. The fatty acid to be used as a raw material is e.g. caproic acid, caprylic acid or lauric acid and the oil base is e.g. liquid paraffin, vaseline or isopropyl myristate. The amount of the oil base is about 50-75wt.% based on the sum of the polyglycerol monofatty acid ester and glycerol, the amount of glycerol is about 10-20wt.% based on the total composition and the amount of water is preferably about 25-50wt.%. The cosmetic is useful e.g. as an antisuntan milky lotion.
