    Abstract: The present invention relates to a lactone-modified epoxy resin which is highly flexible and has improved heat resistance, water resistance, low- temperature properties and miscibility. The present invention also relates to a method of preparing such a lactone- modified epoxy resin and to compositions containing such a resin. The lactone-modified epoxy resin of the invention is obtained by reacting 97 to 5 parts by weight of a hydroxyl group-containing epoxy resin with 3 to 95 parts by weight of epsilon - caprolactone.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A novel fiber-reinforced plastic, consisting of a novel epoxy resin containing cyclohexane skeleton, hardener and reinforcing fibers and having improved weather and heat resistance. CONSTITUTION:(A) An epoxy resin, expressed by formula I [R1 is organic compound residue containing l active hydrogen atoms; n1-nl are integers 1-100 in which the sum is 1-100; l is an integer 1-100; A is substituted group- containing oxycyclohexane skeleton expressed by formula II [X is expressed by formula III, CH=CH2, etc., provided that at least one or more of X are expressed by formula III], (B) a hardener, e.g. diethylenetriamine, and (C) rein forcing fibers are used by the well-known method to give the aimed product. The component (A) is obtained by for example, ring-opening polymerizing 4- vinylcyclohexene-1-oxide in the presence of an active hydrogen-containing com pound initiator and epoxidizing the resultant polyether resin with an oxidizing agent, e.g. a peracid, etc.
