Abstract:
Compressors in a refrigerant loop are driven by variable frequency drives. The variable frequency drives are configured to demand current from an alternating current power source at different phases relative to one another such that at least one current harmonic frequency at the alternating current power source is cancelled.
Abstract:
An example refrigerant system according to an exemplary aspect of this disclosure includes, among other things, a refrigerant loop having at least a condenser, an evaporator, and a compressor. The compressor includes a motor in communication with a variable speed drive. The system further includes a cooling circuit including a pressure regulator downstream of a heat exchanger, the heat exchanger absorbing heat from the variable speed drive.
Abstract:
A centrifugal compressor includes a first stage and a second stage. At least one of the first stage and the second stage includes an impeller and a shroud spaced from the impeller and configured to guide a fluid flow through the impeller. The shroud is selectively moveable between an engaged position and a disengaged position.
Abstract:
An example of the disclosed refrigerant system includes a compressor having a motor that is cooled by motor cooling fluid provided to the motor from the main refrigerant loop by a motor cooling circuit. The example system further includes a sub-cooling circuit to cool the motor cooling fluid.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a control system and method for the centrifugal compressor. The system, for example, includes a controller configured command an adjustment of at least one of (1) a flow regulator and (2) a speed of a shaft in order to provide safe, efficient compressor operation. Centrifugal compressors are used to circulate refrigerant in a chiller via a refrigerant loop. Centrifugal compressors operate efficiently before reaching a condition known as surge.
Abstract:
A centrifugal compressor, such as for HVAC application, includes a rotary component rotatable about an axis, a static component, and a brush seal fixed to one of the static component and the rotary component. The brush seal includes bristles that contact the other of the static component and the rotary component.
Abstract:
One exemplary embodiment of this disclosure relates to a centrifugal refrigerant compressor system. The system includes a condenser, an evaporator, and an economizer between the condenser and the evaporator. The system further includes a centrifugal compressor having a first impeller and a second impeller downstream of the first impeller. The compressor includes at least one port. Fluid from a recirculation flow path and an economizer flow path is introduced into a main flow path of the compressor by way of the at least one port.
