Abstract: A device for the distribution of water to be treated into and for the recovery of washing liquid from a water treatment filter apparatus of the type including a tank containing therein a filter material includes a channel coupled to and extending along the length of the tank, the channel receiving therein water to be treated. The channel has an opening into the interior of the tank at a level above the filter material. The opening is defined at the lower portion thereof by an overflow over which the water to be treated flows from the channel to the tank. The overflow includes a first inclined plane inclined downwardly and away from the channel in a direction toward the tank and a second inclined plane inclined downwardly and toward the channel from the first inclined plane. The inclined planes extend into the tank and form a deflector structure to prevent any filter material from passing through the opening during backwashing of the filter material.

Abstract: A submerged filter includes filtering matter in the form of a granular material contained in a vat having a floor for supporting the granular material. The liquid to be treated flows from the bottom to top and is brought into contact with a gas serving for the treatment of the liquid and circulating in the same direction. The filtering material is washed with water and air. The liquid to be treated, the treating gas, and the wash fluids are introduced into the filtering mass through the floor by means of nozzles which extend through the floor. Some of the nozzles essentially serve for introducing the treating gas, while others serve for introducing the liquid to be treated and the fluids for washing the filtering material.

Abstract: The parent patent deals with the continuous extn. of sludge from the surface of a rectangular flotation tank by means of a moving bridge with a horizontal drum fitted with suitable blades. In addition the sludge is simultaneously extracted from points at the bottom of the tank by means of a suction arm. The bridge moves on four wheels. A drum consists of an axle carrying two circular end-plates which have necks which support the assembly and rest on pulleys mounted on the bridge. The drum is fitted with blades and acts on the sludge at the surface. The bridge includes two suction arms, the object of the addition, which consists of tubes in the form of an inverted "T" with the horizontal portion, at the base of the tank. The sludge can be drawn up through holes by pumps and pumped along pipe to the receiving device for the surface sludge. The sludge can be pumped while the bridge is moving in both directions; the surface and the base sludges can be extracted simultaneously so that the efficiency of the appts. described in the parent patent is thus improved.
