    Abstract: Electrode layer pattern is applied onto a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) web by continuously printing with an ink containing an electro-catalyst and immediately drying. An electrode layer pattern is applied onto a polymer electrolyte membrane web by printing front and back faces of the membrane continuously in the desired pattern with the electrode layers using an ink containing an electro-catalyst and immediately drying at elevated temperature. Printing is carried out while maintaining accurate positions of the patterns of electrode layers of front and back faces relative to one another. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) application of patterned electrode layers onto a polymer electrolyte membrane web by printing one side of the membrane continuously in the desired pattern with the electrode layers using an ink containing an electro-catalyst and immediately drying at elevated temperature; (ii) production of a membrane-electrode unit by placing, adhesive bonding or laminating gas distribution structures onto a printed polymer electrolyte membrane produced by one of the above processes; and (iii) a PEM fuel cell membrane-electrode unit produced as described above.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for detoxifying cyanide- and/or cyanocomplex-containing aqueous solutions in the presence of heavy metals from the series consisting of Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Cd, Zn, in particular Cu, by oxidative treatment of the solutions with a peroxide compound at pHs of 8 to 12, the peroxide compound used being an alkali metal percarbonate. The alkali metal percarbonate, preferably 2 Na2CO3 . 3 H2O2, is preferably added in solid form to the solutions to be detoxified. The process according to the invention, with respect to the use of peroxide compound, is significantly more effective than the previously known process using hydrogen peroxide.

    Abstract: Stable, pumpable aqueous suspension of a silicate which is insoluble in water and is capable of binding calcium ions and which contains, based on the total weight of the aqueous suspension, a) as silicate capable of binding calcium, 0.5 to 80 per cent by weight of a finely divided, synthetic compound which contains bound water, is insoluble in water and has the general formula (Cat2/nO)x.Me2O3.(SiO2)y in which Cat is a cation which has n charges and can exchange with calcium, x is a number from 0.7 to 1.5, Me is boron or aluminium and y is a number from 0.8 to 6, and b) as dispersant component 0.5 to 6 per cent by weight of a mixture of at least two oxo alcohol ethoxylates of the formula II R-(OCH2CH2)n-OH, where R = C10-C15-alkyl with a maximum degree of branching of 25%, i.e. a maximum of 25% of the fatty alcohol ethoxylate has a single methyl branch, n = 3-5.5 mol of EO for component 1, n = 5.75-7 mol of EO for component 2. The suspension can be used to produce detergent and cleaning powders.

A claimed phosphate substitute, for detergents and cleansing compsns., contains (A), (B) and (C). The aq. suspensions are used for the prepn. of powdered or granulated phosphate substits. for detergent- and cleansing compsns. by spray-drying.
