    Abstract: A process for the preparation of 0.01 to 70% strength by weight aqueous solutions of sulphonated organosilicon compounds of the formula [(HO)3Si-R -SO3 ]xM (I> or oligomeric siloxane derivatives thereof fused via oxygen bridges, (R = e.g. a linear or branched alkylene group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, M = H or NH4 or a 1 to 4-valent metal ion), e.g. Si(OH)4, (III> or derivatives thereof fused via oxygen bridges optimally also being present in the solution and the ratio of Si atoms from formula (I) to the sum of the Si atoms from formula (III) being 1:0 to 1:3 and the total concentration of the compounds (I) plus (III) being 0.01 to 70% by weight, proposes to suspend a polymeric di-, tri- or tetrasulphane compound of units of the general formula (R has the same meaning as in formula (I), y = 2,3 or 4 and the free valencies of the oxygen atoms bonded to the silicon atom are saturated by the silicon atoms of further groups of the formula (IV) and/or by metal atom oxygen groups of bridge members, such as SiO4/2 (V) the ratio of Si atoms from (IV) to Si atoms from (V) = 1:0 to 1:3) in a concentration of 0.1 to 40% by weight in water, to treat the suspension at 10 to 100 DEG C with the amount of hydrogen peroxide stochiometrically necessary to convert the sulphane compound according to formula (IV) into the sulphone compound, and to stir it at 30 to 150 DEG C until a mainly clear solution is formed, then to cool it and if desired to neutralize it, then to separate off insoluble constituents present, to wash them and to adjust the desired product concentration in the product solution combined with the washing liquid.

    Abstract: Preparation of bis(silylalkyl)disulphanes of formula (R R R SiR )2S2 (I) comprises (1) reacting silylalkyl polysulphide(s) of formula (R R R SiR )2Sn (II) with a nucleophilic compound (III) of formula M CN (IIIA), M 2SO3 (IIIB) or R R R P (IIIC) in an amount equimolar to the number of sulphur atoms to be removed from (II); (2) filtering the resultant solid; and (3) purifying (I). In the formulae, R -R , R -R = 1-8C alkyl and/or alkoxy, H or monovalent aryl, preferably phenyl, toluyl or benzyl; R = divalent 1-8C, preferably 2-4C alkylidene or a group of formula (IV); n = 3-20, preferably 3-10; and M = an alkali cation, optionally substituted ammonium ion or half alkaline earth or zinc ion. Preferably a mixture of (IIIA), (IIIB) and (IIIC) is used. Reaction is carried out in the presence of a solvent for (III) at a temperature between 20 degrees C and the b.pt. of the solvent, especially in a 2-phase system in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst.
