    SOLUTION: A polyarylene ether ketone is produced by (a) a step to react an aromatic dihalide compound with bisphenol and/or a halogenated phenol in the presence of an alkali metal carbonate and/or an alkaline earth metal carbonate in an aprotic solvent having high boiling point to obtain the polyarylene ether ketone, (b) a step to crush the coagulated reaction mixture in the presence of water in wet state, (c) a step to wash with an organic solvent, (d) a step to wash with water and (e) a step to dry the washed product, wherein the wet-crushed reaction mixture having a residual moisture content of at least 1 mass% is supplied to the above two-stage washing step.
