Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solid having a sulfonate group or both of a sulfonic acid group and a mercapto group on the surface thereof and, for example, capable of being used in condensation reaction as a catalyst by using a compd. represented by a specific formula as an organosilicon compd. SOLUTION: When an inorg. solid is treated with an organosilicon compd., a solid is based on oxide of which the surface is modified with a difunctional organosilicon compd. and silicate and, as the organosilicon compd., a compd. represented by [(RO)y Si-R'-SO3 ]x M and a compd. represented by (RO)y Si-R -SH are used. In the formulae, R is a 1-12C alkylene group, a 5-8C cycloalkylene group or a unit represented by formula I or II, M is H and, according to circumstances, NH4 or a monovalent-tetravelent metal ion wherein (x) is 1-4 valency, (y) is an integer of 1-3, R is the same as or different from R and R is the same or different and methyl, ethyl, propyl or H.

Abstract: The formed sulphonate and SH gp.-contg. organo-polysiloxanes (OFP) contain units of formula (I) and (III): ÄO3/2SiR1SO3ÜxMx+ (I) O3/2SiR2SH (III) where R1 = 1-12 C alkylene, 5-8 C cycloalkylene or a gp. of formula -(CH2)n-Cy-(CH2)m- or -(CH2)n-Ph-(CH2)m- (II); where n and m = 0-6; Cy = cyclohexylene; Ph = phenylene; M = H, NH4 or a metal ion with a valency of 1-4; R2 = R1; the free valencies of the O atoms attached to Si are taken up by the Si atoms in other gps. (I) and/or (II) and/or by the metal atom-oxygen gps. in crosslinking bridging gps. of formula SiO4/2 (IV) and opt. R''SiO3/2, R'SiO3/2, AlO3/2, R'AlO2/2, TiO4/2, R'TiO3/2 (V), in which R' = Me or Et; R" = Ph or 2-12 C alkyl. The ratio of gps. (I):(III) is 10:1-1:10, the ratio of gps. (I):(IV) is 1:3-1:20 and the ratio of gps. (IV):(V) is 1:0-1:0.5. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of OFP.
