Abstract: Berlin Blue is made by reacting Ca or Na ferrocyanide with a Fe (II) salt at a pH of 7, converting the acid ferrous ferrocyanide to Berlin White with (in)organic K salts at pH 1-6 and oxidising this Berlin White as per the parent patent wherein the acid ferrous ferrocyanide is formed at 25-60 degrees C, esp. 40 degrees C. The softness is improved.

Abstract: Prussian Blue is obtd. by reaching Na Ferrocyanide with Fe (II) salts, treating the ferrocyanic acid obtd. with K salt and oxidising the Prussian White to Blue, the pptn. being effected at pH 7 forming an acid Fe (II) salt (FeH2Fe-CN6). The method is now simplified by using initially Fe (II) salts of 2-6 mole% in excess of the amt. required stoichiometrically, and by adding subsequently the three reactants together in stoichiometric amts. and at a pH 1. The Prussian White is formed at 20-60 degrees C. The conversion can be speeded up by raising the temp. to b.pt. Pref. the three reactants are introduced at the same time but through separate feeding devices. The reactor is pref. charged first with sufficient water so that after introduction of the reactants the suspension can be stirred immediately. Suitably the K salt soln. and the ferro salt soln., or a mixt. of the two are charged first. In this case Prussian White is formed immediately after addn. of the other reactant. Pptn. is effected at 30-50 degrees C, pref. at 40 degrees C. After conversion the temp. may be raised to b.pt. by using steam to speed up the end of the reaction.

Abstract: Finely divided hydrophobic silica and silicates are prepared by precipitating of alkali silicate solutions with mineral acids or metal salt solutions and treated with organohalosilanes. To the acid precipitation suspension recovered in known manner there is added as a hydrophobizing agent an organohalosilane, preferably at about 50 DEG to 90 DEG C., the precipitated product filtered, washed and dried and there subjected to a temperature of 300 DEG to 400 DEG C. There is used as the organohalosilane a prepolycondensed organohalosilane or a mixture of prepolycondensed organohalosilanes.

Abstract: Berlin blue prodn. by reacting a ferrocyanide with a Fe(II) salt in an aq. medium having pH 7; converting the resulting acid salt into Berlin white by reaction with an inorg. or org. potassium salt at pH of 1 (or less) to 6; and oxidising this prod. to Berlin blue; is improved by using Mg2 Fe(CN)6 as a ferrocyanide. The reaction between Mg2 Fe(CN)6 and a Fe(II) salt can be carried out in an only slightly acidic medium so that there is no need to use an appts. made from a highly anti-corrosive matl. FeSO4 can be used as a Fe(II)-salt, because it does not form any insoluble salt with Mg. The quality of the prod. is good.

Abstract: Finely divided hydrophobic silica or silicate is produced by treating the dry, moving particles with an organic silane at elevated temperature. The silica or silicate which had been prepared by wet precipitation or pyrogenically and which is in powdered form is heated to a temperature of about 200 DEG to 300 DEG C. with agitation and is brought to a fluidized condition and then is treated dropwise with an organosilane which is stable and boils below 300 DEG C.

Abstract: Berlin blue is prepd by (a) reacting calcium ferrocyanide or sodium ferrocyanide at a pH value below 7 with a ferrous salt to give an acidic ferrous salt of hydrogerrocyanic acid (FeH2Fe CN 6), (b) opt. washing out the calcium or sodium ions from the precipitated salt, (c) converting the precipitate to Berlin white by treating with (in)org. potasiium salts, and (d) oxidising the Berlin white to Berlin blue.
