Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a metallic composite film, of which the metallic film and film support consist of two different metals or metal alloys and which contains a thin metallic film of a desired thickness and a metal film support having a porous structure. SOLUTION: A precursor of the metallic film is set on a nonporous precursor of the metal support, and a metal composite material is made between both precursors. The desired thickness of the metallic film is adjusted by the deformation of the metal composite material, subsequently the porous structure of the film support is produced.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a supported metal membrane for separating hydrogen from a gaseous mixture, in which a membrane-supporting body has a high porosity which has hitherto never been realized. SOLUTION: A metal membrane is arranged on the supporting surface of the membrane-supporting body. At this time, pores of the membrane-supporting body are each filled with an auxiliary material at least in the range of the surface of the supporting body before arranging the metal membrane, and each hole is opened by removing the auxiliary material after arranging the metal membrane.

Abstract: Metal membrane contains a metal membrane formed on a supporting surface of a porous membrane carrier. The pores of the membrane carrier are closed in the region of the supporting surface using an auxiliary material before applying the metal membrane and opened after applying the metal membrane by removing the auxiliary material. An independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the metal membrane comprising filling the pores of the membrane carrier using the auxiliary material, polishing and purifying the supporting surface, applying the membrane on the supporting surface, and removing the auxiliary material from the pores of the carrier.

Abstract: The invention provides a process for preparing a composite metal membrane which contains a thin metal membrane with a desired thickness and a metallic membrane support with a porous structure, wherein metal membrane and membrane support consist of two different metals or metal alloys. The process is characterise d in that a precursor of the metal membrane is placed on a non-porous precursor of the membrane support, the metal composite is formed between the two precursors, the desir ed thickness of metal membrane is adjusted by mechanical working the metal composite and then the porous structure for the membrane support is produced.

Abstract: Production of a metal composite membrane consisting of a thin metal membrane having a required thickness and a metallic membrane support having a porous structure comprises placing a precursor of the metal membrane on a porous precursor of the membrane support; forming a metal composite between both precursors; adjusting the thickness of the metal membrane by deforming the metal composite; and producing the porous structure of the membrane support. Preferred Features: The metal composite is processed by cladding by rolling, explosive cladding or diffusion welding. The metal composite is deformed by rolling, pressing, hot extruding and/or deep drawing, preferably drawing into tubes. The membrane support has a thickness of less than 20-100, preferably 20-50 microns. The metal membrane has a thickness of 1-20, preferably 1-5 microns.
