Abstract: There is disclosed a reinforcing element (10) for reinforcing a solidified fluid mass such as concrete or refractory comprising an elongate shank (12) having a slot (18) extending along at least a portion of the length of the shank. The slot increases the surface area of the shank and increases the aspect ratio of the element to more firmly bond the element in the mass. Anchoring portions (14, 16) are provided at the ends of the shank and have a width greater than the diameter of the shank.
