Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nonacid room-temperature-vulcanizing silicone composition which retards discoloration due to the deterioration of the surface mildewproofing agent upon exposure to ultraviolet rays by adding a specified compound to a nonacid room-temperature-vulcanizing silicone composition containing a UV-decomposable mildewproofing agent. SOLUTION: This composition comprises a moisture-condensible silyl- terminated polymer, a moisture-sensitive crosslinking agent, a filler, a UV- decomposable mildewproofing agent and at least 2 pts.wt., per 100 pts.wt. polymer, particulate zinc oxide. It is desirably a composition further containing a curing catalyst, more desirably a composition containing a fluorine compound as a silicone repellent.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation process of a room temperature vulcanizable silicone composition which is crosslinked when subjected to moisture and generates an elastomer. SOLUTION: A starting material comprising (A) 100 pts.wt. polydiorganosiloxane, (B) from 3 to 15 pts.wt. silane, (C) from 5 to 250 pts.wt. filler and (D) from 0.01 to 5 pts.wt. catalyst, is supplied to an axial-flow mixing turbine. This axial-flow mixing turbine possesses a shaft having blades which are positioned along the vertical axis of a casing and rotate in a direction perpendicular to the vertical axis of the casing, has a supplying aperture at the near end and an exhaust aperture at the far end of the casing to allow the material to flow in the direction of the blades, and mixes (A), (B), (C) and (D). The produced mixture is introduced into a vacuum degassing apparatus to remove volatile components.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the service life of a surface drying oil present on a room temperature vulcanizing silicone composition by exposing a mixture containing a drying oil, a specified polymer, a moisture-sensitive crosslinking agent, a filler and particulate zinc oxide to the air. SOLUTION: 100 pts.wt. polymer terminated with a moisture-condensible silyl group is mixed with 0.5-10 pts.wt. drying oil, 0.5-15 pts.wt. moisture-sensitive crosslinking agent having at least two hydrolyzable groups in the molecule, a filler, and optionally a catalyst to obtain a nonacid room-temperature vulcanizing silicone composition. 100 pts.wt. obtained composition is mixed with at least 2 pts.wt. particulate zinc oxide to obtain a composition. This composition is exposed to the air to form a cured composition having a surface drying oil layer having a service life longer than that of a drying layer made from a composition free from zinc oxide.

An example of these polydimethylsiloxanes is one having low reactivity endgroups of the formula XR2SiO-, where X is methoxy or methylethylketoximo and R is methyl or vinyl, and high reactivity endgroups having a formula YbR(3-b)SiO-, in which b is 2 or 3, R is methyl radical and each Y is a hydrolyzable group selected from the group consisting of a ketoximo group and methoxy.

Abstract: A sealant made from a room temperature curing polydimethylsiloxane composition that has a siloxaphobic surface layer at the air-sealant interface where this layer is a fluorocarbon compound and a drying oil oxidation product. Elastomeric compositions made from polydimethylsiloxanes having both low reactivity endgroups and high reactivity endgroups and a siloxaphobic agent of fluorocarbon alcohol or a reaction product of the fluorocarbon alcohol and a hydrolyzable silane, are particularly useful for sealing buildings because they can withstand expansions and contractions. One siloxaphobic agent is the reaction product between a fluorocarbon alcohol and a methyltri(methylethylketoximo)silane and the formula of one of the reaction product compounds is wherein x has an average value of at least 6.y
