    Abstract: The invention relates to a process to prepare a condensation polymer containing ester groups and at least one amide group in the backbone, having at least one β-alkyl-substituted β-hydroxyalkylamide end group, and having a hydroxy alkylamide functionality between 2 and 250 and having a weight average molecular mass of ≥ 800 g/mol. A polyvalent carboxylic acid reacts with an alkanolamine to form a hydroxy-alkylamide after which a polyesteramide is obtained through polycondensation.
    The obtained polymers can, for example, be used in thermosetting powder paint compositions.
