Abstract: The present invention relates to an actuator (3) for regulating a valve (1) in a fluid system, wherein the actuator (3) is adapted to operate according to a characteristic curve (4) containing information correlating a valve opening with a flow through the valve (1) and to a flow rate measured by a flow measuring device (5), characterized in that, the regulation of the valve (1) is based on a modified characteristic curve (4M) that is based on a basic characteristic curve (4B) and the measured flow rate by the flow measuring device (5) compared to a design flow rate. The present invention further relates to the method of controlling the valve.

Abstract: A device (10) for controlling a system (30) for heating and cooling is provided, the device (10) comprising at least one valve actuator (12) for a valve (14) of a bypass line (16) of the system (30), and a flow measuring device (20) for a return line (18) of the system (30), the return line (18) leading a combined flow from the bypass line (16) and a heating or cooling device return line (32) from at least one heating or cooling device (22) to at least one thermal energy source (24), the flow measuring device (20) being configured to determine and provide at least one actual flow value of the combined flow, wherein the valve actuator (12) is configured to receive the actual flow value and to control the valve (14) based on the actual flow value, the valve actuator and the flow measuring device comprising a direct signal connection between each other, wherein the valve actuator (12) comprises a motor (40) connected to the valve (14) and a processing unit (42) for receiving the actual flow value and for providing at least one motor position value for the motor (40) based on the actual flow value, wherein the processing unit (42) comprises a PID controller (38) to control the valve (14), the input of the PID controller being the difference between a minimum flow value and the actual flow value, the output of the PID controller being a calculated set point flow value. The device (30) to control a system for heating or cooling is easier to handle and has reduced costs.

Abstract: Method for controlling the distribution of thermal energy in a commercial or industrial entity having a waste heat producing circuit connected to a primary side of a heat exchanger whose secondary side is connected to a heat recovery unit (HRU). To the heat sink side of the HRU a heat consuming circuit is connected. The method determines a first temperature range at which the waste heat producing circuit is operable at its optimal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Determines a second temperature range between a predetermined upper limit temperature and a predetermined lower limit temperature using the first temperature range and the heat exchange capacities of the heat exchanger and the HRU such that the waste heat producing circuit can be stably operated at its optimal Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER). And controls the fluid temperature in the return line by means of controlling one or more flow valves installed at the least at one or more heat energy consumer such that the temperature in the return line does not exceed the predetermined upper limit temperature neither fall below the predetermined lower limit temperature.
