Abstract: According to the present disclosure, a steering system and method for a machine (10) include a vehicle control system (12) configured to command steering of the machine (10), and a steering sensor (24) in communication with the vehicle control system (12). The steering sensor (24) is configured to detect a position of a steering actuator (22) of the machine (10). The vehicle control system (12) is configured to detect an acceleration rate of the machine (10) and to command steering of the machine (10) based at least in part on the position of the steering actuator (22) and the acceleration rate of the machine (10).
