Abstract:
A data transmission system and method employing either a renegotiated variable bit-rate ("RVBR") network or a renegotiated constant bit-rate ("RCBR") network. Within these networks, data transmission rates between a sender and a recipient are rapidly renegotiated as a function of previously stored data transmission rate information and system buffer levels. Such a system and method can be readily implemented within existing CBR and/or VBR network architectures. The RCBR and RVBR networks allow for the implementation of an intelligent data traffic management systems that are responsive to the rate at which new calls or requests for connections enter and leave the network, the frequency and duration of extended peak rate data bursts, as well as the occurrence of short duration data transmission peaks.
Abstract:
Presence-based synchronization manages updates among concurrent collaborators based on the presence information of each collaborator within a shared document of a collaboration environment. A collaborator's edits to a page of a shared document can be synchronized more frequently when other collaborators are accessing the same page. In contrast, the collaborator's edits to a page of a shared document can be synchronized less frequently when no other collaborators are accessing that page. Further, the manner of the collaborator's presence within the shared document may influence the synchronization rate—collaborating users within an online meeting may synchronize more frequently than a single user who is not actively collaborating with other users. In one implementation, other maintenance activities within the shared document (e.g., garbage collection) may be influenced by the presence information of collaborators within the collaboration environment.
Abstract:
A prosthetic device and method to restore extraocular muscle function. The device includes a housing; a biasing component disposed in the housing; a proximal connector operatively connected to a proximal end of the biasing component; and a distal connector operatively connected to a distal end of the biasing component, wherein the proximal connector is configured for being secured with respect to an orbital bone and the distal connector adapted to be secured to the paralyzed or absent muscle stump, e.g. on the globe, or to the eyelid.
Abstract:
When a multi-page document is embedded in a notebook system, a preview object is generated for pages of the embedded document. The preview objects are displayed in the notebook, and when a user modifies the document underlying the preview objects, to change a relationship between the preview objects, the preview objects are synchronized with the underlying document to reflect those modifications.
Abstract:
A software application window shows current content in a content region and navigation information in a plurality of navigation regions, with the navigation regions showing contextual information for the current content, as well as for related content. A request to hide navigation information is received, and navigation information for related content is hidden from the window. Any space made available by the hidden content is used to expand the content region, while maintaining the same size and location of the software application window.
Abstract:
An airbrush system includes a compressor with a tube attached thereto to provide air to an airbrush that includes an adaptor to mount a marker or ink supply on the airbrush in front of the outlet air nozzle thereof. As the air passes over the marker or other ink supply, it drives ink outward to reproduce the airbrush effect.
Abstract:
A container document can include a file node indicating a file and pointing to a location for the file that is separate from the container document on a server. An embedded relationship between the file and the container document can be imitated. The imitation can include responding to user input by performing the update on the file node, and by requesting that the server perform an update on the file that reflects the update performed on the file node. A request for an update to be performed on the file node can be received from a client at the server. In response to the request, the update can be performed on the file node at the server. A corresponding update, which reflects the update performed on the file node, can also be performed on the file at the server.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for scheduling mobile stations (MSs) to download data to and/or to control the rate of downloading to an MS from a base station (BS) as a function of downlink channel condition information are described. Artificial channel variations, which can be measured at the MS, and feedback to a BS for scheduling purposes, are introduced through the use of two or more transmitter antennas at a BS. Each of the antennas transmits a signal at the same frequency having the same information content e.g., modulated data. However the signals are made to differ with time in their phase and/or amplitude. Multiple signals having the same transmission frequency and information content are received and interpreted as a single composite signal by a receiving MS.
Abstract:
A system and method for the segmentation of data exhibiting an intrinsic long-term average data rate, punctuated with periods of peak rate data bursts. This segmentation conditions the data for efficient transmission via either a renegotiated constant bit-rate ("RCBR") network or a renegotiated variable bit-rate network ("RVBR") network. Within these networks, data transmission rates between a sender and a recipient are rapidly renegotiated as a function of previously stored data transmission demand information and system buffer levels. Such a system is responsive to the rate at which new calls or requests for connections enter and leave the network, the frequency and duration of extended peak rate data bursts, as well as the occurrence of short duration data transmission peaks.
