Abstract: A method of forming a shielded electrical terminal configured to receive a corresponding shielded electrical terminal. The terminal includes an inner shield defining a shield cavity about a longitudinal axis. The shield cavity is configured to receive the corresponding shielded electrical terminal. The inner shield has a longitudinal inner seam substantially that is parallel to the longitudinal axis. The inner shield defines a plurality of resilient contact springs that protrude into the shield cavity. The contact springs are configured to contact the corresponding shielded electrical terminal. The terminal also includes an outer shield integrally formed with the inner shield and covering at least a portion of the inner shield. The terminal formed by this method is also presented.

Abstract: A method of forming a shield terminal from sheet metal having a tubular first portion having a single seam and aligned with a first axis and a second tubular portion having two seams radially opposed to one another and aligned with a second axis that is oriented at a right angle to the first axis, an inner insulator disposed within the shield terminal, and an outer housing defining a cylindrical cavity in which the tubular first portion of the shield terminal is disposed. Edges of the single seam and edges of the two seams are joined solely by the disposition of the tubular first portion in the cylindrical cavity. The shield terminal formed by this method is also presented.

Abstract: A method of securing an electrical terminal within a terminal cavity of a connector body is described herein. The method includes the step of deforming a portion of an outer surface of the connector body to fabricate a protrusion that projects from an inner surface of the connector body into the terminal cavity, thereby securing the electrical terminal within the terminal cavity. A connector assembly formed by this method is also described.

Abstract: An electrical-terminal includes a wire-attachment-end and a connection-end. The wire-attachment-end is configured to receive a wire-cable. The connection-end is opposite the wire-attachment-end. The connection-end has a top-wall, a bottom-wall, a left side-wall, and a right side-wall forming generally a rectilinear-shape and defining a cavity configured to receive a corresponding electrical-terminal inserted along a mating-axis. The connection-end includes an upper contact-frame and a lower contact-frame disposed within the cavity. The lower contact-frame terminates at a tip that is reversed 180-degrees such that the tip is disposed between the lower contact-frame and the bottom-wall. The lower contact-frame defines an inner-contact having a free-end disposed within a perimeter of the lower contact-frame. The lower contact-frame includes opposed-tabs disposed within opposed-windows defined by the left side-wall and the right side-wall. The opposed-tabs engage the opposed-windows when the corresponding electrical-terminal is inserted, thereby inhibiting a deflection of the lower contact-frame.
