Abstract:
A method of diagnosing faults within an engine system (1), the engine system comprising a plurality of cylinders, the method comprising: monitoring (310) the output signal of one or more in-cylinder pressure sensors (3) within the engine system, each of the one or more in-cylinder pressure sensors being associated with a cylinder within the engine system; determining (312) a pressure related parameter for a given cylinder having an associated in-cylinder pressure sensor; and diagnosing (314) the presence of faults within the engine system on the basis of the pressure related parameter.
Abstract:
A method of determining whether a given cylinder in an engine system is ready for injection/ignition, the engine system comprising a plurality of cylinders, the method comprising: monitoring the in-cylinder pressure of the given cylinder within the engine system; determining a pressure related parameter for the given cylinder in order to determine whether the cylinder is ready for injection/ignition.
Abstract:
An injection nozzle for injecting a fluid, the injection nozzle comprising: a nozzle body and a nozzle hole defining a flow passage for fluid, the flow passage comprising passage walls and the nozzle hole having an inlet in fluid communication via the flow passage with an outlet, wherein, for at least one section through the inlet and outlet along the flow passage the nozzle hole is defined, for all distances x within a substantial length of the flow passage, by the condition: ⅆ S ⅆ x > 45 microns / millimetre , where S = passage wall separation and x is the distance from the inlet.
Abstract:
A method of controlling an engine system, the method comprising: receiving data relating to engine operation; calculating in an engine model a combustion parameter and an injection parameter required to operate the engine system in accordance with the received engine data; controlling the engine system based on the calculated injection parameter wherein the method further comprises adjusting the engine model over time based on a comparison between the calculated engine combustion parameter and a corresponding measured engine combustion parameter
