Abstract: Control apparatus featuring a condition sensor, a first relay responsive to a signal from the condition sensor, the first relay being in a first state in the absence of a signal from the condition sensor and being switched to a second state in response to a signal from the condition sensor, a control relay adapted to be switched between first and second states, circuitry responsive to an operation request for switching the control relay from the first state to the second state after a time interval, and clamping circuitry operative in response to the detection of the first relay in its second state during the time interval to clamp the first relay in the second state and the control relay in the first state, overriding the influence of the condition sensor on the first relay.

Abstract: The invention has particular utility in connection with combustion control systems that employ lead sulfide (infrared sensitive) photoconductors in conjunction with band pass amplifiers. Flame relays in such systems would occasionally hold in after flame failure due to continued generation by the photoconductor of fluctuating signals. A flame failure transition responsive circuit is connected in series between the photoconductor and the flame relay and responds to an abrupt decrease in the flame signal to insure dropout of the flame relay.

Abstract: A combustion supervision system for use with a fuel burner includes two time delay devices, each of which provides a time delay as a function of current flow through the device. The first time delay device has a shorter time interval than the second time delay device. The system also includes circuitry for energizing the first and second time delay devices concurrently, circuitry for initiating an ignition sequence at the end of the timing interval provided by the first timing device, circuitry for operating a lockout device at the end of the timing interval of the second device, and circuitry responsive to the sensing of flame by a flame sensor for interrupting the timing cycle of the second timing device.

Abstract: Burner control apparatus includes lockout apparatus for deenergizing the control apparatus comprising a switch and an actuator for operating the switch after a time delay, first and second alternate lockout actuator energizing paths, a control device for actuating the ignition control means, and a timing circuit for providing an ignition timing interval of precise duration. The timing circuit is actuated in response to a request for burner operation and one of the lockout actuator energizing paths is completed in response to the actuated timing circuit. The control device is maintained energized if a signal from the flame sensor is received before the end of the ignition timing interval, and the control device is de-energized and a lockout actuator energizing path is completed in the absence of a signal from the flame sensor.

Abstract: A burner control system that locks out for flame failure but recycles to an ignition sequence after a power failure. Recycling can occur even if a flame is momentarily present in the combustion chamber when power is restored, but the system locks out if the flame is not extinguished within a predetermined period of time. Included in the control system is a control circuit with a lockout switch actuating circuit including a latchable switch means that closes when there is no flame and an energizing signal is applied, remains closed for the duration of the energizing signal, and opens when the signal has terminated. Closing of the latchable switch means is triggered by a control relay, and the control circuit is electrically isolated from greater voltages in the output of a flame sensor, thereby causing the latchable switch means to open at least as soon as the control relay is deenergized when an energizing signal is lost. A circuit to lockout for flame failure or a dangerously long flame persistence after power failure is also provided.
