Abstract:
A compressor may include a shell, a compression mechanism supported within the shell, a motor drivingly engaged with the compression mechanism, and a terminal assembly. The terminal assembly may include a cover secured relative to the shell, a terminal block fixed to the shell and in electrical communication with the motor, and a plug. The plug may be engaged with the terminal block and may provide electrical communication between the terminal block and a wire. The plug may include a first side facing the terminal block and a second side facing a wall of the cover. The second side may include a protrusion extending toward the wall and spaced a distance therefrom.
Abstract:
Methods of removing moisture from a compressor using a sorbent technology are provided. A dehydration device incorporating the sorbent technology is disposed in a system that contains a hygroscopic fluid. By passing the hygroscopic fluid over the sorbent technology, moisture is removed from the hygroscopic fluid. The systems include sealed devices and integral components for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and refrigeration devices.
Abstract:
Methods of forming an integral component for a compressor and methods for improving ductility of an integral component for a compressor are provided. The integral component is formed of a recycled nylon and a recycled polypropylene. Recycled carpet is used to provide the recycled nylon and recycled polypropylene. The integral components are useful for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and refrigeration devices.
Abstract:
A compressor including a shell, a compression mechanism disposed within the shell, a motor actuating the compression mechanism, and a terminal body secured to the shell, may further include at least one conductor pin extending through the terminal body and a fence disposed around the terminal body and secured to the shell. A plug assembly having an inner core surrounded by an outer body includes at least one electrical receptacle housed by the inner core for selective electrical communication with the at least one conductor pin. A seal may be integrally formed with the outer body and may engage the fence when the at least one electrical receptacle is in electrical communication with the at least one conductor pin.
Abstract:
e.g. e.g. 2e.g. Anti wear surface coatings and methods for making them are provided. Such anti wear surface coatings are particularly suitable for use in a compressor such as a scroll or rotary compressor. A precursor powder material can be applied via spraying to a wear surface of a metal component of the scroll or rotary compressor. The precursor powder material comprises a powderized thermoplastic polymer ( PEEK) a first lubricant particle ( molybdenum disulfide (MoS)) and a second lubricant particle ( polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)) which is heated to form a substantially uniform coating covering the underlying metal component having a thickness of less than or equal to about 0.006 inches (about 152 µm). The anti wear surface coating can be used on a face seal for a bellows type shaft seal for compressors.
Abstract:
Improved seal components for compressors such as scroll compressors are provided. Such seal components have a molded composite on a seal plate that is preformed which serves as an improved face seal for floating seal assemblies. The preformed seal plate may be formed of a sintered powder metal or cast gray iron. The molded composite comprises a thermoplastic polymer and at least one reinforcing or lubricating particle. Methods of forming such seal components for a scroll compressor by injection molding are also provided.
Abstract:

Anti-wear surface coatings and methods for making them are provided. Such anti-wear surface coatings are particularly suitable for use in a compressor, such as a scroll compressor. A precursor powder material can be applied via spraying to a wear surface of a metal component of the scroll compressor. The precursor powder material comprises a powderized thermoplastic polymer (e.g., PEEK), a first lubricant particle (e.g., molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)) and a second lubricant particle (e.g., polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)). Then the applied precursor powder material is heated to form a substantially uniform coating covering the underlying metal component. The substantially uniform coating may have a thickness of less than or equal to about 0.005 inches (about 127 μm).
