Abstract: A compressor (10) may include first and second scrolls (68, 70), a seal assembly (20) and a valve ring (126). The first scroll (70) may include a first end plate (84) having a discharge passage(92), a modulation port (112), and a biasing passage (110). The modulation port (112) may be in communication with a first pocket (94) formed between spiral wraps (74, 86) of the first and second scrolls (68, 70). The biasing passage (110) may be in communication with a second pocket (96) formed between spiral wraps (74, 86) of the first and second scrolls (68, 70). The modulation valve ring (126) is axially displaceable relative to the seal assembly (20) and the first scroll (70) between first and second positions. The valve ring (126) may abut an end plate (84) of the first scroll (70) and close the modulation port (112) when in the first position. The valve ring (126) may abut an axially-facing surface of the seal assembly (20) and is spaced apart from the end plate (84) to open the modulation port (112) when in the second position.

Abstract: A compressor may include a shell, first and second scroll members, and a seal assembly. The shell defines a first and second pressure regions. The first scroll member may include a first end plate defining a chamber. The seal assembly may surround the discharge passage and fluidly separate the first and second pressure regions from each other. The seal assembly may include first and second sealing members. The first sealing member may prevent communication between the chamber and the second pressure region when a first fluid pressure within the second pressure region is higher than a second fluid pressure within the chamber. The first sealing member may define a leakage path when the first fluid pressure is lower than the second fluid pressure. Abstract: A compressor includes a shell, a bearing housing, an orbiting scroll, a non-orbiting scroll and a spacer. The bearing housing includes a central body and a plurality of arms extending radially outwardly from the central body. Each of the arms has a first aperture. The non-orbiting scroll is meshingly engaged with the orbiting scroll and includes a plurality of second apertures. Each second aperture receives a bushing defining a first longitudinal axis and a fastener defining a second longitudinal axis. The fastener extends through the bushing and into a corresponding one of the first apertures in the bearing housing. The spacer is disposed between the bushing and the fastener of each second aperture and is configured to engage one of the bushing and the fastener to restrict radial misalignment between the first longitudinal axis of the bushing and the second longitudinal axis of the fastener.

Abstract: Improved seal components for compressors, such as scroll compressors, are provided. Such seal components have a molded composite on a seal plate that is preformed, which serves as an improved face seal for floating seal assemblies. The preformed seal plate may be formed of a sintered powder metal or cast gray iron. The molded composite comprises a thermoplastic polymer and at least one reinforcing or lubricating particle. Methods of forming such seal components for a scroll compressor by injection molding are also provided.
