Abstract:
A compressor includes orbiting and non-orbiting scroll members meshingly engaged to form a series of compression pockets, including first pockets when the orbiting scroll member is in a first position. A first porting in the non-orbiting scroll member communicates with the first pockets during a portion of a compression cycle. The first pockets include a set of radially outermost pockets located radially inward relative to the first porting and isolated from communication with the first porting during the compression cycle. The first porting is aligned with a spiral wrap of the orbiting scroll member at a location radially outward from and directly adjacent the first pockets when the orbiting scroll member is in the first position. Additional porting communicates with each of the compression pockets located radially outward relative to the first pockets when the orbiting scroll member is in the first position.
Abstract:
A compressor may include a housing and first and second scroll members supported within the housing, each having an end plate with a spiral wrap extending therefrom and meshingly engaged with the other to form a series of compression pockets operating at an intermediate fluid pressure between a suction pressure and a discharge pressure. A first passage in communication with one of the compression pockets extends from a first side of the first end plate to a second side of the first end plate generally opposite the first side. A modulation plate overlies the second side of the first scroll member for radial displacement between first and second positions. The modulation plate isolates the first passage from communication with a suction pressure region of the compressor when in the first position and provides communication between the first passage and the suction pressure region when in the second position.
Abstract:
A compressor may include first and second scroll members and first and second pistons. The first scroll member includes a first end plate and a first scroll wrap. The second scroll member includes a second end plate and a second scroll wrap that is intermeshed with the first scroll wrap to define moving fluid pockets. The second end plate may include a first and second passages, first and second recesses, and first and second ports extending through the second end plate and communicating with at least one of the pockets. The first piston may be disposed in the first recess and movable between first and second positions controlling communication between the first passage and the first port. The second piston may be disposed in the second recess and movable between first and second positions controlling communication between at least one of the pockets and said second passage.
Abstract:
A compressor includes a housing, a first scroll member supported within the housing and having a first end plate with a discharge passage, and a second scroll member supported within the housing and having a second end plate with a second spiral wrap extending therefrom and meshingly engaged with the first spiral wrap to form a series of pockets. A first aperture extends through the first end plate and is in communication with a first product of the series of pockets. A modulation assembly axially biases the first scroll member into engagement with the second scroll member when the first aperture is in communication with a suction pressure region of the compressor.
Abstract:
A compressor may include a housing, orbiting and non-orbiting scroll members, a first porting, and a second porting. The first and second porting may each extend through the end plate of the non-orbiting scroll member and may each have an angular extent of at least twenty degrees. An ending point of the first porting may be rotationally spaced from a starting point of the first porting by the angular extent in a rotational direction of a drive shaft of the compressor. An ending point of the second porting may be rotationally spaced from a starting point of the second porting by the angular extent in a rotational direction opposite the rotational direction of the drive shaft. The ending point of the second porting may be rotationally spaced from the starting point of the first porting by less than one hundred and eighty degrees in the rotational direction of the drive shaft
Abstract:
A compressor includes a first porting extending through an end plate of an orbiting scroll member at an angular extent of at least twenty degrees and first and second spiral wraps defining modulated capacity pockets when the orbiting scroll is in a first position. The first modulated capacity pockets may include a set of radially outermost compression pockets located radially inward relative to the first porting and isolated from communication with the first porting during an entirety of the compression cycle. The first porting may align with the second spiral wrap at a location radially outward from and directly adjacent the first modulated capacity pockets when the orbiting scroll member is in the first position.
Abstract:
A compressor may include first and second scroll members having first and second scroll wraps, respectively. The scroll members define a suction inlet, a discharge outlet, and fluid pockets moving therebetween. The second scroll member may include a port, and a passage. The port may be in fluid communication with at least one of the pockets. The passage may extend through a portion of the second end plate and may be in fluid communication with the port. A valve assembly may be disposed in the passage and may include a valve member displaceable between open and closed positions. A recompression volume may be disposed between the valve member and the at least one of the pockets. The recompression volume may be less than or equal to approximately one percent of a volume of one of the pockets at a suction seal-off position.
Abstract:
A compressor including a housing defining a suction pressure region and a discharge pressure region includes first and second scroll members forming compression pockets. A first chamber located on the first end plate of the first scroll member includes first and second passages and a first aperture extending therethrough and in communication with the first chamber. The first aperture provides communication between a compression pocket and the first chamber. A piston in the first chamber is axially displaceable to isolate the first passage from communication with the second passage when in first and second positions, prevent communication between the first aperture and the first passage when in the first position, and provide communication between the first aperture and the first passage when in the second position.
Abstract:
A compressor may include a shell, a compression mechanism, and a seal assembly. The shell may define a first discharge passage. The compression mechanism may be supported within the shell and may include first and second scroll members. The first scroll member may include a second discharge passage. The seal assembly may extend between the first scroll member and the shell and may form a sealed discharge path between the first and second discharge passages. The seal assembly may include a first seal member axially displaceable relative to the shell and the first scroll member. The first seal member may axially abut the first scroll member when in a first position and may be free from axial contact with the first scroll member when in a second position. The seal assembly may maintain the sealed discharge path when the first seal member is in the first position.
Abstract:
A compressor includes a shell assembly, a compression mechanism and a suction fitting. The shell assembly defines a chamber. The compression mechanism is disposed within the chamber of the shell assembly and includes a suction inlet. The suction fitting is attached to the shell assembly and extends at least partially into the chamber of the shell assembly. The suction fitting defines first and second openings. The suction fitting directs working fluid through the first opening towards the compression mechanism and the suction fitting directs working fluid through the second opening away from the compression mechanism.
