Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stainless steel fastener insert having a tendency to restrict, although not to remove, the occurrence of galling in a fastener assembly. SOLUTION: A stainless steel alloy to be used has a composition containing nitrogen in an absolute amount preferably up to about 0.8% at the maximum in total. To be more precise, the insert is a nitrogen strengthened stainless steel insert composed of an alloy having a composition consisting of about 0.05 to 0.15% carbon, about 5.0 to 12.0% manganese, about 2.0 to 6.0% silicon, about 12.0 to 20.0% chromium, about 6.0 to 12.0% nickel, about 0.02 to 0.8% nitrogen and the balance iron.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent stray current corrosion by coating a fastener insert with fluoropolymer composition, joining a fastener and the fastener insert in a hole with a tap. SOLUTION: A fastener assembly 10 used for a base material 12 having a hole 14 with a tap including a thread 16 is provided with a fastener 20 and a fastener insert 22. The fastener 20 is provided with a head 24 and a shank having a thread 28, and the insert 22 is preferably formed in a shape of a wire 30 which is wound in a spiral shape, and which is provided with a main body 32 having a plurality of a convolutions 34 between end parts 36 and 38. A diameter of the insert 22 is larger than that of the hole 14 before the insert 22 is inserted into the hole 14, the insert 22 is fixed to the inside of the hole 14 after the insert 22 is inserted, and a coil adjusts to a normal screw. Before the insert 22 is inserted, fluoropolymer composition is coated by means of a dip spin or an air spray. It is thus possible to reduce abrasive wear when the insert 22 is made of stainless steel as well as protecting stray current corrosion.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify installing work by performing installation of a spiral coil insert and removal of a core by one work. SOLUTION: This power installing tool includes a tubular body having a bore 16 extending in the axial direction, a mandrel 20 coaxially arranged in the bore 16 of this tubular body, a punch coaxially arranged in the bore 16 of the mandrel 20, a motor 32 for rotating the mandrel 20 and an air cylinder 30 for imparting axial directional force to the punch. The mandrel can move to a position for engaging with a spiral coil insert and a position for installing the spiral coil insert in the selected depth in a female screw cut hole existing in a workpiece from a position retracted from the spiral coil insert. The punch slides in the axial direction in the bore 16 of the mandrel 20 for removing a core from the spiral coil insert as soon as the spiral coil insert is installed in the female screw cut hole.
