    Abstract: 1,162,887. Coating metal strip with solder. ENGELHARD MINERALS & CHEMICALS CORP. Sept. 11, 1967 [Sept.12, 1966], No.41439/67. Heading C7F. In a process of continuously bonding a flexible strip of solder on to a metal strip such as Be - Cu, brass or steel, the metal strip 10 is unwound from reel 12, passed under a flux applicator 14 where a liquid flux is applied to the required area, a solder strip 17 is fed via reel 18 on to the fluxed area and compacted to the strip by roller 20, the composite then being heated in zone 22 for a short time so that the solder is in a molten state for e. g. 0‹01 to 2 seconds, and then chilling the composite at 30, 38 and 42 and passing the composite through a liquid bath 44 to remove remaining flux. The solder strip 17 may be 0À0015" to 0À05" thick and consist of alloys of Sn - Pb, Sn - Ag, Pb - Sb or Sn - In. The chilling zone 30 is a liquid coolant or heat exchanger, the heating zone 22 and zone 30 being separated by insulating gasket 32. The bonded solder strip may be skimmed to controlled thickness at 52 prior to coiling at 54.

    Abstract: 1,093,633. Contact members for switches. ENGELHARD INDUSTRIES Inc. May 3, 1965, No. 18603/65. Heading H2B. A base-plate for a relay has a plurality of pins 21, 23 etc. secured therein, a movable contact blade 29 being secured directly, e.g. by welding to the shank of pin 21 and engaging the hooked end 25 of the pin 21. The free end of the blade carries contacts 31, 32 which co-operates with contacts 27, 26 provided on the hooked ends of pins 23 (19) (Fig. 1, not shown). The contact pressure may be adjusted by bending the hooked end 25 of pin 21. In Figs. 3 and 4, not shown, each fixed contact pin has a trifurcated end and one leg of a U-shaped contact blade spring is secured between the centre prong and the two outer prongs of the pin. The U-shaped springs are adjustable. An arrangement having two changeover contact sets is described.
